wiscotitansfan
Remember when Trump was going on about how smart Putin is for attacking a country because sanctions don't mean shit. I assume this attack so far has to go down as one of the biggest gaffes in history of modern warfare
Starkiller
We are declining to give them F-16s. It would probably be easier to find European countries willing to give them Russian jets that Ukrainian pilots are already trained on in exchange for new American aircraft. We have up until now but we also said we weren't sending tanks until we were so we'll see what happens. It's very likely we could end up just replacing the F16s of another country who sends them though. IsntLifeFunny

Germany didn't want to be seen as the one escalating things in Ukraine so they wanted someone else to go first then they'd do the same. In the end though, we originally said we weren't sending tanks then we did. Same can be true for F16s. imo though it'll be more likely that we just reimburse any country that sends theirs. begooode
Again for the $$ provided to Ukraine to stand up to Putin's hostile takeover, this has been the deal of all deals against geopolitical enemy #1. These military losses will have to be replaced by Russia in a tough and corruption-rife economic environment, and all this was done essentially with no loss of life for NATO allied troops -- just supporting the Ukrainian peoples' sovereignty. pennies on the dollar investment v returns. Russia has potentially lost up to half of all its operational tank fleet since the start of the Ukraine war, according to information collected by a monitoring group, as its military struggles to meet the goals of Vladimir Putin’s invasion. Oryx, an open source intelligence website, has been collecting visual evidence of military equipment losses in Ukraine since Russia’s invasion began on February 24, 2022. The group said this week it has verified 1,000 distinct Russian tank losses in the war. It said a further 544 Russian tanks had been captured by Ukrainian forces, 79 damaged and 65 abandoned. That toll does not include losses Oryx has not been able to visually confirm, said Jakub Janovsky, a military analyst who contributes to the Oryx blog. He estimated the actual toll could be nearer 2,000 tanks. “Russia started the war with around 3,000 operational tanks … so there is a good chance that Russia has lost one half of (its) usable tanks” Janovsky said. https://www.cnn.com/2023/02/09/europe/1000-russian-tanks-destroyed-ukraine-war-intl-hnk-ml/index.html Edited February 9, 2023 by begooode Starkiller, ChemEngr79, IsntLifeFunny, and 1 other
reo
The big thing for me is the amount of their balistic missiles and such they've used which they can't currently replace.

I’ll add that when a superpower is reliant on relatively crude Iranian drones, somethings gone horribly wrong. That said, the biggest asymmetric embarrassment imo was the loss of fleet leading capital ship Moskva, when Ukraine doesn’t even have a serious navy. No amount of propaganda salve will make that burn go away. Edited February 9, 2023 by begooode

That's why they're relying on Iranian drones so heavily now. They're not completely out but they would be if they hadn't started using drones so heavily. That is their nuclear threat. They run out of cruise missiles then all they've got left are those capable of being launched from subs or their very limited hypersonic missiles (that isn't really hypersonic).
