This along with the handling of covid shows what a total imbecile Trump is and so unworthy to be president. Which of course plenty of other stuff does as well but these instances make it impossible for anyone to ignore/admit. Years of constant exposure to Trump’s never-ending fountain of non-reality and mind-numbing stupidity have effectively normalized his behavior. Not only are we no longer surprised by it….we’ve actually come to expect it of him and have largely desensitized ourselves to how incredibly fucked-up it truly is. Instead we hung them out to dry and the resistance got massacred. Netanyahu and Trump do not care about the Iranian people though, they just care about Iran being a failed state and exacting “revenge” (I’m sure that will work out swimmingly between giving China/Russia more control and the massive increase in terrorism). So, they have no reason to open direct talks, while back channels take a long time to work, and no one on earth thinks Trump can contain himself long enough for that to work. Iran has already shown the ability to selectively target oil tankers. If you take out there oil infrastructure they collapse and then you have Libya times 10. It's interesting - Larijani was the preferred successor to the Ayatollah by the Trump admin as recently as last Fall. Then of course he was the leading architect of the operation to putdown the protests and massacre thousands. Glad he's dead, but funny enough, he was one of the more moderate types in that government when it comes to Western relations.
