It's the exact opposite if a false equivalence. One made a single mistake and stepped down for it. The other is a complete fraud and refuses to step down and Republicans are making the exact excuse I described. Words, learn them.

One example means nothing, as I explained.   If you want one, then Republican House majority leader Scott Livingston was forced to resign after he was caught in an adulterous affair during Bill Clinton's time.   That is an example of a good equivalency.

So you’re saying that the GOP used to have morals?

Biden violated the Espionage Act, just like Trump.  But only Trump can make the argument that he declassified the material.   But that fact doesn't matter to you.

Your argument is a charade that you want to espouse with minimal ownership — “Trump can make the argument…”, then spike the football “that fact doesn’t matter to you”. It’s just more disingenuous bullshit.

As explained in all relevant reporting, declassifying is a process for information handling, not something that’s winked at by a few people, president included. Also, declassifying would mean a freedom of information act request would release the contents. It’s just stupid to believe it, to repeat it, and to act like it’s some gotcha ace card in this process breakdown. John Eastman would likely approve, though.

House GOP to Prepare Emergency Debt Limit Plan

January 13, 2023 at 6:33 pm EST By Taegan Goddard 2 Comments

“House Republicans are preparing a plan telling the Treasury Department what to do if Congress and the White House don’t agree to lift the nation’s debt limit later this year, underscoring the brinkmanship newly empowered conservatives will bring to the high-stakes negotiations over averting a U.S. default,” the Washington Post reports.

“The plan, which was previously unreported, was part of the private deal reached this month to resolve the standoff between House conservatives and Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) over the election of House speaker. Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), a leading conservative who helped broker the deal, told The Washington Post that McCarthy agreed to pass a payment prioritization plan by the end of the first quarter of the year.”

100% this "payment prioritization plan" is a way to try and defund the Special Council's investigation into Trump.

Hilarious that you had to go back to the 90s for an example.

Part of me wants to just let them bankrupt the country. It may take something totally over the top and something that impacts people's wallets for the average American to see how fucked up the modern GOP is.

Even this won't matter to the dullard repugs I personally know.

Hilarious that you can only defend your dumbass narrative with only one example that happened during the height of the me too movement.

The argument can be made that the President can declassify anything by spoken word, just like he can pardon anyone by word only.

There are no legitimate arguments that the President can just snap his fingers and highly classified documents be declassified. This is doubly so with SCI documents that have American Assets and intelligence in them. What you're talking about is stupid as fuck and if a Dem said it you all would be howling.
