Rates go up to curb inflation which is worse with spending and borrowing. You can argue all you want. Taxation is to collect money for government services.

Taxation doesn’t pay for government services. That’s why we go further and further into debt every time some Republican cuts taxes for the wealthy.

Income inequality has nothing to do with taxes nor should they be used to pretend it will rectify the issue.

Tax cuts have plenty to do with income inequality. Tax cuts for the wealthy simply puts more money in their pockets. Meanwhile the government borrows trillions to subsidize those tax cuts.

Economic growth occurs under many factors. High taxes, regulations do undermine it.

You act like there’s no incentive to make money when taxes are high. The economy boomed even when the top tax rate was 90%.

As for regulations, they are there for a reason. When there are no regulations then the capitalists have no qualms about polluting your drinking water or risking your bank deposits or selling unsafe cars as long as they make a little more money out of it. There’s certainly such a thing as over-regulating, but conservatives routinely default to wildly under-regulating.

The idea that lower taxes doesn't equate to income equality is laughably misinformed.

The entire US tax code is bent to favor the wealthy. Federal income tax taxes labor/W-2 income vs wealth and capitol gains.

This is basic stuff of course

Let’s just say that LBJ has a very divisive record…

He signed the Civil Rights Act into law and effectively combated poverty. Was a deft navigator of Washington DC politics, and knew how to pull the levers of power and use the Bully Pulpit.

He would easily be considered one of the best presidents in American history… if not for getting us into fucking Vietnam and destroying the Democratic Party brand.
