Uhhh, pass? I will say like (I’m guessing) most people these days, when I want to watch a YouTube video it’s way more likely than to be on my phone than on a desktop/laptop and in this scenario the app is always the primary method. So for the purposes of wanting to seek out and watch a video on YouTube, I’m sure there are tons of people that only use the site/app exclusively in that scenario. That’s fair. Let’s say they even out in terms of searches, or let’s even give Youtube the advantage since as you noted people go there specifically to look for videos. If the video was searched for 10 million times with 6 of them on YouTube, that still leaves 4 million for Google, where it is the top hit linking directly to the YouTube video. It doesn’t make sense to me, personally. Google is the parent company. If they wanted this not to be linked they would, just like they have with many other sites. There are a lot of reasons this video could have been pushed down on YouTube and not Google. Outright supposing it’s a conspiracy when Google holds it as the top search and links directly to YouTube is a reach mi amigo.
oldschool
How does anyone who claims to use YouTube not understand the search function? I run into the issue described above all the fucking time when trying to search for videos for my kids as they like different things. Acting like this is some sort of gotcha is beyond moronic. In fact this puts merc on par with simple Jake. That's how fucking retarded this is.
OzTitan
I watched the video. I have to say, not having the result #1 when typing in the exact same title is a bit weird, but the reality is Google search engines evolved past word for word matching a long time ago. They are trying to guess what you wanted to watch, and the vast majority of the time you're not going to know the exact video title, so they account for this. I wouldn't be surprised if they put exact word match pretty far down the importance list as this can be gamed. I remember a time where the best way to get Google to give you what you want was to imagine what text would be on the result you're looking for. For example, say you wanted to know how to change a tire - you should therefore search for "the best way to change a tire" or perhaps even something more specific like "after you have removed the punctured tire". However, no matter how many times I tried to explain this to less tech savvy people, they'd continue to type "how do I change a tire" into Google. There was a time when typing questions into Google often produced poor results and bad content employing blackhat SEO, but Google adjusted and now this is no longer much of an issue. One thing the video neglected to do while jumping to claims of censorship was prove that the techniques they claim are not being applied to the videos they want are being applied to other videos, like anti Trump ones. This is obviously a critical part of proving unequal treatment, yet he failed to show unequal treatment - all he showed was a "quirk" of the search engine for his specific use case. But the reality is, the ecosystem is far too complex for such a simple comparison anyway - just because a video has 5 million views doesn't mean it should be showed over a video with 200K views, because for any given topic with a divisive audience, one side of the audience may have far less content than the other despite similar online audiences, so what it thinks you're looking for could be found across a few different lesser view count videos rather than one higher view count video. I'm not sure how Youtube ranking works exactly, but content that is linked to by low quality sources is penalized in Google search. So if a bunch of known fake news websites were linking to this video and the majority of its traffic came from referrals from such sources, then there's a good chance YT penalizes it in searching as it is programmatically guessing it is poor content. This is not fool proof of course but it likely works for the best most of the time. Ultimately, the YT engine failed this guy in what he was looking for, which is not ideal for Google and ideologically something they have many people working on to solve as a general problem. They don't want someone not finding what they were looking for right away - there is no way they are engaging in small time fixing if you truly understood the scale and complexity they deal with, so I think there's a tad bit of self importance gone rogue here to think otherwise. The ironic thing is they could have probably profiled this guy and adjusted the search result just for people like him and he'd be none the wiser, but his complaint about it not being findable would still be as valid as it is otherwise. Whether he was inside a private window or authenticated to Google using his primary account wasn't covered, although this seems to be more relevant to Google than YT searches currently. pat
Tech companies shouldn't spy on me or track my interests! And when I search, the #1 result needs to be exactly what I expected! These two statements don't co-exist.

begooode
“Wow, Report Just Out! Google manipulated from 2.6 million to 16 million votes for Hillary Clinton in 2016 Election!" Trump wrote Monday on Twitter. “This was put out by a Clinton supporter, not a Trump Supporter! Google should be sued. My victory was even bigger than thought!” While Trump did not cite the source of his claim, it came minutes after a segment on Fox Business Network referred to congressional testimony in July from behavioral psychologist Robert Epstein. In testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee, Epstein claimed that based on his research, “biased search results generated by Google’s search algorithm likely impacted undecided voters in a way that gave at least 2.6 million votes to Hillary Clinton.”,... ,... But Clinton, whose popular vote margin totaled just below 3 million votes, was having none of Trump’s assertions. “The debunked study you’re referring to was based on 21 undecided voters. For context that’s about half the number of people associated with your campaign who have been indicted,” she replied in a tweet.
