tgo Posted March 26, 2019 Report Share Posted March 26, 2019 Metcalf's issues are certainly not character or makeup issues. His issues are limited lateral agility and athleticism beyond pure speed. Obviously his physique and straight line speed are off the charts. But bulking up that much affects flexibility to catch and cut which is incredibly important for receivers. And he doesn't have much athleticism in terms of quickness and route running/cutting, etc. to begin with. I think he's one of the more risky players, the more I've learned about him. But maybe he'll just be a one trick pony that's really dominant at that one trick and have success that way. Should certainly end up being a good blocker too! I jumped the gun on him with some of my earlier comments based just on early scouting reports and hype. I wouldn't touch any of these receivers in the first round at all. The pick absolutely needs to be someone that plays with their hands in the dirt on the line, whether that be defense or offense. Anything else would be a waste in this particular draft. Adams Posted March 26, 2019 Report Share Posted March 26, 2019 So what do we know about JRob...our first few picks are the best player at the position of needs. We have filled the biggest need from FA in all of JRob drafts so far. In my opinion, it's RG and solid #2 WR. - I could see us going after Jonah Williams for RG and moving him to RT for 2020. - I see us going WR in round 2. My preference would be to trade the second for a veteran like AJ Green. I haven't seen anywhere that he's available, but I would find out. - I could also see us drafting Drew Lock. tgo Posted March 26, 2019 Report Share Posted March 26, 2019 @Adams I thought Robinson's comments which Kuharsky reported on about Conklin's option were kind of weird - saying that how the draft shakes out may affect how they approach his 5th year option. How would that be the case unless they were thinking of drafting someone who could play RT and RG, like Ford or Jonah Williams? Or Dalton Risner. Or I guess also a mid round guy like Nate Davis that they're interested in fits that bill as well, if they're really high on him. Edit: I should add to this - if they’re not going to exercise his option then they should trade him now. Actually, maybe that’s what he was referring to re: the draft! I guess they’d probably get a 3rd round comp for losing him though, unless we made an offsetting FA move. Does anyone know if declining the 5th year option nets you a comp pick if they leave in FA?
