I've been against drafting a QB this year (with a non-first round pick) but if you do it you have a (very) small chance of finding a diamond in the rough, and if not and he plays significant time you will get a prime draft pick in 2020.

Most of the available FAs don't look too good but I'm all for attempting to bring in someone better than Gabbert.

I think you just have to go through next year under the 5th year option and evaluate.

….and draft a QB in the middle rounds and commit to keeping 3 on the roster in 2019.

Sure, there are better backups than Gabbert, but it doesn't matter. With this offensive personnel very few QBs will be successful. When your 2 best receivers on an already bad receiving corps are out and you invest all your money on offense on the offensive line and said offensive line is mediocre, this is what you get. A backup isn't going to materially change anything. And if you're looking for a new starter the incoming draft QBs are nowhere close to Mariota.

Just hope that Mariota is healthy next year and we should be better with Delanie coming back and JRob shoring up our line

It's hard to understand how our O-line played so much worse than Indy's yesterday, or even worse than Houston's O-line with one high draft pick and a bunch of guys at guard and tackle. Houston's O-line allowed only 3 sacks yesterday, we allowed 5 against a suspect Indy defense, and Indy allowed zero against the top defense. Talent, injuries or coaching?

I’m a big Mariota fan...but the durability concerns remain a huge consideration.  The team continues dealing with uneven and inconsistent performance and production from the QB position...and Marcus’ injuries have been a huge factor in that equation.  I love the kid...but you simply can’t depend on him to be healthy and productive  from week to week over the course of a 16-game season.

Considering the importance of the position, JRob has to seriously consider drafting a QB prospect in round 1 and let him sit and learn while Marcus plays out his 5th year option...then the organization  can make a decision after the 2019 season.

Worst case scenario, they end up moving on from Marcus, while his heir-apparent already has a year of meetings and film study (and probably 2-4 games) under his belt.

Best-case scenario, they end up with a Brees/Rivers situation where they’re forced to choose between two excellent candidates.

Or better yet...they end up extending Marcus for a reasonable price and have two starting-caliber QBs for the price of one for 3-4 years, and they don’t have to make a big decision until the younger guy’s contract expires.  (This would also open up the possibility of a blockbuster trade in 2-3 years).

Square pegs in round holes. This line is great for a power scheme, we saw that. Even Lewan dosn't look comfortable. Every other starter looks so out of place.

I know you keep hammering this home but I don't agree. look at the Bears talent for example.

Last week this team was great.  This week they suck.  I can’t stand this board sometimes.  And I’m certainly not signaling you out I’m just frustrated and your post was one about how poor a certain part of the team is playing.

Agreed.  JRob built this squad for a Man-Power scheme.

The move to Zone has been disastrous.

The offense for the Bears wasn't that impressive last night but overall I agree. Nagy knows what he's doing and so does Helfrich, but Trubisky is a very good young QB. I do think we'd be a lot better if Mariota didn't constantly get nicked up so often. We should be better on offense no doubt.

This injury seems like once you've had it, it is easily reaggravated. Stingers are the same way, and it is basically a pinched nerve as well. That sucks because if that is the case, you can never count on him to be your franchise guy.

not entirely true.

you can have a very basic surgery with a very very short healing time like a couple weeks...that gets the nerve out of harms way.

The ghost of Mularkey is still haunting the team. We never should have retained him when bringing in JRob. AAS should have given the keyw over to him then.
