So many people who bought into Bitcoin did it at the height and they're still down ... assuming they haven't already cut and run. That's the period that tends to matter.

I wasnh't even going to touch that major factor cuz it's not relevant to many here who regularly post about crypto besides maybe NN, I haven't bothered looking at YTD stock gains until just now so was sorta surprised how his BTC being up post isn't as much of the brag as it was intended to be

Those who cut and run after bitcoin crashed from $32 to under a dollar and rose back up to $3 must feel especially relieved they sold.

Those who haven't lost are those with a saver's mindset, not an investor's mindset. They don't see themselves as down because they understand the value in fiat is only going to go up because the value of fiat is only going to go down.

The period that matters is the period that has the lowest time preference.

don't even go there.  obviously you don't have btc from 14 years ago, otherwise you'd have better things to do than make these thirsty posts

Just look at the low dots in this chart. Growth from the perspective of the yearly lows removes the noise from the volatility of the hype cycles.

Each "epoch" has consistently shown growth from the lows. Price is a function of time preference and buy point. Timing any market is difficult.

By every metric, Bitcoin has grown in terms of higher highs and higher lows. Nothing has stopped it yet.

My only question is when is the price of BTC going to go up with all this inflation?

"When is the price gonna top out so I can buy the top and then bitch about how much 'real money' I'm losing on this retracement... back down to $125k."

A dollar two ninety-eight.

Actually, I sold it all at a loss. Don't listen to me, I'm an idiot. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What's with everyone's obsession with how much money people have "made" in Bitcoin?

You just don't get it. If the world really does get to that point where cryptocurrency truly is a currency that is widely regarded as the global default unit of value, it will not be the first crypto ever that actually made a name for itself ever.

Sure, you will be able to convert that BTC to whatever more efficient and better crypto eventually people may adopt but that defeats the entire point of your meme about not needing to ever convert BTC into anything else

That being said, I don't ever see the world adopting some crytpo made by a no name guy as the global unit of value
