I know the US can't default on its debt without causing the shit to destroy the fan. The economy would be raw dog fucked, people on social security, veteran's benefits, etc. That's just the corner the government has backed us into. Damned if we do, damned if we don't. The USD is probably headed to hyperinflation anyway at some point down the road, but the complete removal of the ceiling seems like it would all but ensure that hyperinflation would get the Usain Bolt treatment. The bills would technically get paid but people would still be fucked because their money would become increasingly worthless. I get that it's less drastic than the country defaulting, but ultimately it would have the same effect. Slow bleed out, instead of getting gutted all at once. 9 Nines
The debt ceiling is not a third party, contractually imposed constraint. It is a self-imposed constraint on financing activity to pay for already passed spending. People arguing not to eliminate it , or not raise it, do not understand what they are advocating (not paying already incurred bills) and they are just attacking without offer productive solutions. For example, most Republicans, currently against raising it now, are advocating for spending cuts first, but most to all of them preface it with no cuts to military, Medicare or Social Security, because they know they would lose any political fights to cut any of them. Combined, those three areas are 75% of the government budget with the other 25% made up of about a dozen categories. I think anyone can understand how that is a non-workable demand. How can the government make any material cuts, but keep 75% of the budget off the table. It can't. So basically, the Republicans are just entertaining a blame game, with no productive goal. The real question, if you are one who thinks the budget should be cut (I do not), is to decide do you have the political ability and appetite to cut those three big programs, or do you have the appetite to raise taxes. Because you have to do one of those two things or a combination. Raising taxes on high income earners, and closing various loopholes, should be easy to muster and would be effective, and would be to the benefit of Joe Six Pack. So if one really wants spending cuts/less deficits raising taxes on high earners would be the prudent coarse, and Republicans taking it off the table, shows this is all theater. BobbyCoins
Paid shill gonna shill. It's not about bullshit claims of climate damage, which has been debunked ad infinitum. It's about these fiat fucks trying to influence policy to maintain their monopoly over the money supply and therefor the direction of society. Bloomberg hiring another celebrity government cuck to push this horseshit propaganda is par for the course.

Unlike everyone else, I don't already know everything there is to know. More than convincing myself I'm educating myself. But I'm also vomiting all this stuff in the thread for whoever else who might be curious/interested. Most of those who don't give a shit won't even see it. It's not for them. It could be, but it's not. Here's something else not for them. A discussion on why bitcoin's proof of work (physical power projection) consensus is superior to the point of stake consensus (abstract power projection) that most all of the other cryptos use.
