The IRS is manned by people. And people can be replaced/fired and/or voted out. You may think the "will of the people" is a laughable concept, and in our modern society maybe it is, but people can change their own minds if they have will enough to do so. 4 hours ago, OILERMAN said: and you ain’t buying no groceries with BTC lol Not right now I'm not. But that wasn't the point of the post. People keep saying it's not "real" money because it's not practical, or even really possible, to spend it *as* a currency. Even though that was still technically false, practically speaking that's more or less been the reality. But... and this was the point... not for long. You should read the comments by Lyn Alden in that Twitter thread. Who knows? She may even give you a bigger reason to think this is all a massive snipe hunt. You can't really buy anything with them. All you can do is look at it and maybe sell it. Right now Bitcoin is the new gold, which to say, a mediocre investment. But that's the massive difference between gold and Bitcoin that is only getting more and more different. Gold's "rails" are basically horse and buggy compared to Bitcoin's lightning rails. Bitcoin on its layer 1 network was basically really "only" useful as a legitimate replacement for Western Union. But getting Bitcoin to storefront acceptance on the lightning network will be Bitcoin useful as a legitimate replacement for Visa. Will it get there? Idk. We better hope it does. Because the USD is skating on thin ice.

Central and commercial banks are already using block chain to process transactions. Those units are usually temporary, created and destroyed on the fly, just to process transactions between systems. I strongly assume that is what she is discussing in that quotation and she is not discussing a replacement for a retail payment system. The real question is are the Dennis Porters of the world true believers who think tricked out wheels make cars fast or are they con-artists selling tricked out wheels to people with slow minds cars. BobbyCoins
Just a little fwiw moment here, Satoshis are not "property". They are, in fact, money. They spend just like dollars do. And eventually, they will spend just like dollars do. Edited April 15, 2022 by NashvilleNinja

What a huge pain in the ass, and is it correct it it's a 2% for that transaction? and once again, why the fuck would you buy snacks with a scarce asset going to 100ks per BTC? Well, it's no more of a pain in the ass than thumbing through a wallet full of paper or counting change in your pocket. May not (yet) be as convenient as whipping our a debit/credit card and tapping/swipping a transaction through, but a lot of people pay with their phones now with Apple and Google Pay. And I'm sure they will have a "Bitcard" soon enough that utilizes the Lightning network the same way debit cards utilize the Visa network. It would just be connected to your own Bitcoin "hot" wallet. Idk about the transaction fee. On 4/15/2022 at 5:29 AM, OILERMAN said: and once again, why the fuck would you buy snacks with a scarce asset going to 100ks per BTC? I wouldn't but Rome wasn't built in a day and adoption won't necessarily come overnight. Some will be ginuea pigs, incidentally or by choice. Ultimately the more valuable BTC gets the fewer sats it will take to buy things with them. Like what's happening in the reverse with dollars right now where the less valuable they get the more it takes to buy things with them. The point of that video was Mallers showing the way to mass adoption. A problem with Bitcoin, something you've pointed out, is that it was something people just moved around but eventually just converted to fiat because you couldn't really spend it like money. Basically just another (better) Western Union. Mallers just showed how that distinction can and potentially will disappear, and showed how the Lightning network on top of the Bitcoin network can be the replacement for Visa. It's just a matter of the infrastructure being put into place to facilitate it.
