OILERMAN
I realize the celebs are getting paid by BTC and getting paid by some ripoff exchange company. My original post was they were being paid to promote it

BobbyCoins
33 minutes ago, Supdawg said: Good point. And I guess I should have clarified better, because I forgot my audience. The people who are paid to promote Bitcoin are people who benefit from Bitcoin's adoption (like an exchange for example - Tom Brady and FTX), but inherently since Bitcoin doesn't have a CEO, advisory board, or a marketing budget it can't be promoted directly by Bitcoin. Most shitcoins have devs they have to pay, venture capitalists, CEOs, etc. Bitcoin development is almost 100% funded by generous donations and people who value sound money. You know that distinction isn't going to matter to the audience, right? Supdawg

Just clarifying the semantics from what I understood him to mean based on his history. OILERMAN
Dan Olson is the creator of a two-hour-YouTube video, “Line Goes Up,” that has now been viewed nearly seven million times. “Line Goes Up” is the single most comprehensive critique of crypto that I’ve ever heard. And that’s because Olson isn’t just focused on cryptocurrencies as a technology or an asset class, but on the crypto universe as a distinct culture underpinned by a powerful ideology. It’s easy to think about the lingo, the acronyms and the myths associated with the crypto world as incidental to the value of cryptocurrencies and NFTs as assets. But for Olson, the culture and the currency are inextricably linked. And once you’ve made that connection, suddenly a lot of the problems, warning signs and potential dangers of crypto become visible in a new way. OILERMAN
Ezra Klein — if you just held on, and held on, and held on, and held on, and not listened to the naysayers, and not listened to the journalists, and not listened to everybody who doubted, you just kept getting richer, and richer, and richer, and richer, and richer. And Bitcoin has had an extraordinary run-up. The cultural power of the stories of people who put a couple hundred or a couple thousand bucks in and now have astonishing money — that is potent. And so it’s also powered, this culture, because you can look at those guys and say, oh, I should have been like them. Dan Olson It happened before. It’ll happen again. Ezra Klein But of course, the problem with bubbles is, they’re all like that until they’re not. You don’t want to bet against it, because you don’t know when it’ll pop. There’s an old line. The market can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent. Dan Olson Great line. Ezra Klein But nevertheless, there is this problem when you are convincing people. It just seems to me that what I see in the market, for a lot of these assets right now, is, they are doing the kind of acquisition strategy you need to get dumb money in. Dan Olson Buy the dip. Ezra Klein Right, money that doesn’t understand what you’re doing. And also, then, they’re creating a culture that tries to make money dumber, right? That tries to get people to not follow their instincts, to not look at what they’re seeing in front of them, and to not sell. And I don’t believe, for a moment, the people who aren’t going to sell are the super-sophisticated V.C.s. I don’t believe, for a moment, it’s the folks — the real financiers won’t know when to sell. But a lot of folks will have been brought in behind them. And they won’t have been able to sense the market changing. And they will have believed diamond hands and Not Going to Make It. And they would have been excited about the run-up they already experienced. That’s how you get a really painful crash.

pat
The funny thing is last night I was talking to my dad. He's got a bunch of proof sets that he's bought from the US mint. He knows they aren't really worth anything it's just a collection for every year since he was 6. He likes to look at them. He's got other little gold coins gold bars stuffed around as well. And he's pretty honest about their value. You can't really buy anything with them. All you can do is look at it and maybe sell it. Right now Bitcoin is the new gold, which to say, a mediocre investment.
