The first rule of crossfit/Crypto: always talk about crossfit/crypto

I read something today that is good news.  Retirement vehicles were flirting with putting some funds into the cryptocurrency space.   After this collapse, they likely will not, so passive holders in those vehicles will not be harmed. Now most of the ones hurt will be the arrogant who  claimed, and many still do, that cryptocurrency is fine and the way to go, so no sympathy for them - they have been adequately warned so now they are like the drivers who go around blockades to drive into temporarily closed, flooded streets to submerge their vehicles (you have to laugh, actually.)

"I sincerely believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people to whom it properly belongs."

"History records that the money changers have used every form of abuse, intrigue, deceit, and violent means possible to maintain their control over governments by controlling money and its issuance."

Fucking dystopian nightmare. Combine this shit with China's social credit system and CBDCs and all you see is the Chinese government's iron fist closing around the throat of its citizen's future.

If you think this shit wouldn't be desirable by other governments you're crazy stupid. China is just more overt in their intentions.

Seeing rumors Grayscale is having issues. They have 635,000 BTC. That would be devastating to the crypto market if they have to liquidate.

I guess this is what comes of relying on the SEC. The SEC will keep it dangling as long as they want to, or as long as the government wants them to.

If people want to buy bitcoin they really just need to buy it themselves instead of looking to use a proxy. Bitcoin was designed to be the antithesis to that kind of shit anyway and there are a ton of easy, simple, straight forward ways to buy that don't even require an account on one of these big exchange platforms like Coinbase or Binance. For high networth individuals I guess there's Swan Bitcoin but if you're just looking for a quicker and self-reliant way of stacking sats there's Cash App, Strike App, Fold App, Noah, etc. Fold App just recently started letting you buy directly in the app in addition to letting you earn a % of bitcoin back on every purchase, bill payments, etc that you make.

I get it. Self-custody is a foreign and scary concept and not everyone is capable of it. Kinda like how people suck at using 2FA security on their accounts. But people shouldn't be shut out of owning it just because they have problems that way.

As for as being devastating to the "crypto market"? People keep saying that, but Mt Gox was by far the worst of all the various price collapses by percentages. FTX is just as bad because it impacted far more people, but each time this kind of thing has happened it has always been something outside of bitcoin that happened. None of it had anything to do with bitcoin itself and none of it stopped bitcoin from being bitcoin. The blockchain kept on chaining blocks. That's the beauty and difference between bitcoin and the "crypto space". Everything else has a level of centralization, whether corporate or otherwise, that will always make it inferior to bitcoin. Bitcoin? All it takes is people buying, holding, and maybe even setting up their own node to run on their home networks if they feel a little more froggy about it.

People are eventually going to come to realize that they need to decouple in their mind what the "crypto space/market" is doing from what Bitcoin is doing.
