What is our contingency plan for Mariota's injury?

Plenty of teams are in the same situation. How good are the Seahawks if Wilson goes down? The Packers without Rodgers? The Saints without Brees?

Few team with good #1 QBs will win with their backups in the lineup. It's not a non-issue but there's not much to be done about.

Cassel knows the offense, as does Tanney. In an offseason where Mariota is out injured they need a guy who can run the offense in practices without learning on the job. Unless Tanney looks good and beats out Cassel for the backup job I would expect them to look for a new backup next year. But for now they are doing what's best for their short term.

The games I saw when Colt McCoy started fro San Fran were quite impressive. Previous to that he was mediocre at best. Cousins finishes seasons and has not had a major injury yet.

Case Keenum did alright in St. Louis for the most part, Minny also has a recovering Bridgewater as well as Keenum.

McCarron, Garopollo and Glennon are clearly better than Cassel and arguably could start for many teams.

Fortunately Mariota doesn't depend on his running ability to be a top QB. It's a "nice to have" ability, but it by no means defines him and is not the reason he's had success (which is something most would not have guessed). He's already shown he's more than capable of beating teams with his arm. So even if the injury lingers a bit into this season, there's no reason to think it would have a long term impact.

Nah even without Mariota they probably have enough talent to win 4-5 games.  But you get the point.

Jokes aside, not many playoff teams will go very far without their starter so why bother?

contingency plan = TANK what's left of the season.

TN would have to dump the crayola 8 pack for an actual NFL offense.  At least the line & backs are up to snuff better now.  Targets are mostly out of pop warner backgrounds though.

But you'd have a hell of a lot more to hope for.
