And if you think that's bad, tell everyone to stop bringing up Jordan, Bird, Magic, Kareem. It happens. It's going to happen with Mariota too. If he's actually that good, he's going to be compared to former greats. It's sports. If you don't understand that by now, idk what to say. It's literally every fucking thread with you though... Just because there is a comparison possibly doesn't mean you need to spew that shit.

Lazy and ignorant analysis of basketball here. Not surprising you think Kobe is that great if you're just reading stat sheets.

Not since the 80s-90s. But their ratings will still top the World Series by a little and hockey 3-4 fold. The Superbowl brings in a 5-6X more viewers, but you could argue that you actually have more watches total over a multigame NBA/MLB championship series, and that means a lot for advertisers. (However, it's mostly the same audience so your message doesn't reach nearly as broad an audience. Not to mention the whole Superbowl Ad watch crowd, which is finally dying in lock step with the creativity of the ads.) NCAA basketball final four for comps is very close to the NBA's numbers. While the college football championship is usually about 50+% higher. Football's very nature of limited games vs the other Big 5 sports has further helped it in this 24/7 sports news cycle world. Easier to over-analyze and soap opera the teams when you've got a week to do so rather than moving onto the next game so soon. And hard in this busy world to catch all the games in a 82 or 162 game season unless you're unemployed/retired. People keep saying that. They bring up the ratings, but I don't personally know many people who watch NBA or the Finals. The fans I do know are either die hard sports nerds or black. I'd say in my circle more people are college basketball fans than NBA. Most I know, including myself, will eventually tune in game 6 or 7. In Jordan's day, I didn't miss that many games even during the regular season.

In Jordan's day, I didn't miss that many games even during the regular season. I became a Bulls fan simply because when we first got cable in maybe 1980 (?) WGN in Chicago was one of the stations, so I ended up watching all their games back with they had Reggie Theus and Artis Gilmore. Once Jordan came around I stuck with the Bulls as a favorite team. Still preferred watching my #1 guy Dr J and George Gervin (kinda forgotten these days but he was awesome). Always hated the Lakers and Celtics. I was a kid and sports was easy to follow. As I got older, I changed - and lost time/interest to follow the NBA. And the game changed too in that Iverson/Kobe generation. I like what the Warriors have done simply because they were handed a fleet of #1 picks, but were very home grown via the draft with Curry, Thompson and Green ranging from I think around 6ish, 11 and 40something. Sure KD joined them but that's it. And they are more team-and skill-oriented rather than being overwhelming physical presences, and I think that's good for the game (and kids watching) as well. I don't think most of Tennessee and the South (outside ATL and the other NBA host cities to some extent) in general has nearly the level of NBA fans you see in the Northeast or cities like Chicago, LA. And I think when it comes to the whys and why nots of NBA fandom, you cannot completely ignore the role that race plays in it. Not the primary factor, but a significant one. TampaTitan
Does anyone really believe the product that this league puts out is better than the NHL's? Ratings be damned, the NHL is the most competitive league in the world right now and offers so much more than the NBA does. I honestly don't know how people watch it these days. I barely watch the NBA at all until the second round of the playoffs. The entire regular season is a waste. But playoff basketball is pretty solid and the Warriors are damn fun to watch. Yeah, I watched most of game 1 until they started pulling away, and just a few minutes of game 2. As a sports fan I can at least respect it enough to pay it some attention, plus I'm big on watching the greats while they're around like LeBron. It does irk me though that the fans of 28 other teams have to sit thru an entire season knowing they don't have a chance in hell (with the exception of maybe the Spurs). And it could be that way for another 2-3 years! Granted, there have always been favorites in every league, but this is on another level.

heyitsmeallen
Only like 2 or 3 games in the playoffs this year have been won by less than 10. The NBA playoffs suck ass.

TampaTitan
If you can pinpoint at the beginning of the year what two teams are going to be in the finals every year, your league is ass. It's all glitz and glamor and a bunch of diva superstars that sit out 1/3 of the season because their poor little bodies need "rest".
