Florio comments on Titans offense this AM

Florio was on the sports junkies, local DC radio show, and he said Mularkey told him the team plans to share the load between Murray and Henry in an effort to keep both guys healthy. Also said that they plan to run Mariota a lot and that the passing game will be a luxury intended to make teams pay for loading up against the run.

Thoughts? I know Florio is a national guy but he's usually dialed in. Is it possible he's misinterpreting things here?

PA baby. Sounds like a legit observation, and honestly not a tough deduction to make. I hope Mariota is ready to make adjustments off the cuff. He's been doing well at it in preseason.

He was insinuating the passing game would be an afterthought and that Henry would get a lot more carries than expected. As in Murray isn't the feature guy. It seems counter to what is coming out of camp locally.

Sounds pretty exotic.

There is only one drawback to the plan.

best case scenario we are able to beat teams with this strategy.

worst case is we end up being a 2 or 3 win team again if our starting QB gets hurt early.

I kept seeing Mularkey stating that there would be no sharing.  Murray was feature back,  period.   I would rather see split  duty,  but why would larky be making these stupid statements?  Who knows what he's gonna  do.  Maybe his idea of exotic smashmouth is "telling someone you're gonna do one thing....... Then do something completely different".   Whoa

I think Mularkey knows what he wants to do, but he's not positive about who is going to do it on the field yet.  He's letting that come to him, and will fit the pieces in as they show up on the game tape, and adjust personnel and scheme to find the fits.

And that's good.

Some teams will stifle this run game and he knows it.  Whether they do it with scheme or with their base personnel packages will determine what Marcus does in the pass game.  Mularkey is hoping most teams will have to load the box to stop the run, and Marcus will have 2-3 WRs, a TE and a RB working against 2 CBs and a single safety in the pass game.  Tons of play action.

As far as Marcus running, I think that's smoky coach-speak.  He'll do it enough to make DCs respect it, especially on 3rd and short, but it won't be a big part of game planning.

Sounds about right. Which is the wrong approach.

I'd be shocked if Mularkey said that, though. He seems to fight the all-run impression every chance he can.

I'll be pissed if they run Mariota much. That's worse than trying to grind out a run game decades after it's wise. Scrambling on broken plays is different.

Given what we've seen from Henry thus far, I think it would be a logical shift in scheme. The scheme was already run heavy. Dividing carries between Murray and Henry keeps the defense off balance not knowing which guy will be in and giving Henry more carries makes sense because the guy looks great. I think it's an adjustment according to what we are seeing so far on the field. AND it keeps both guys legs fresh, it's a win win. I would also bet that Marcus runs when the defense gives him something but not a lot of designed runs.

That offense almost sounds ... non ... innovative.

It not innovative, it's 100% old school, hat on a hat, stop me if you can football and if you DO stop us, we'll let Marcus make you pay.
