Cops need to be held to a much higher standard than they are.

Using deadly force on a man that has both his arms pinned down is murder. I have seen at least 2 different angles showing them pin down both his arms. There is no way he could get the gun.

@Mercalius all cops are mercenaries is an overreaction but in towns like Ferguson there is a major division between cops and the community.  This is a problem.

Now, we had what appears to be 4 snipers gunning down totally innocent white cops.  Why?  Because they are white.  Idiots look at this and in some twisted way see some kind of moral equivalent.  As if there is justification for it.  Imagine if 4 WHITE snipers gunned down a bunch of blacks because they were black.  And certainly there are enough blacks killing white scenarios to "justify" the action.....

But why not go the whole 9 yards.  A bunch of us whites should get together and trash downtown Nashville.  Have a justified riot.  It makes sense don't it?  No it sounds insane and now we will have MORE violence and brutality on both sides.  Oh, and our leader, our president.......  a royal POS.  Nothing new.

 

You make some good points.  The only problem is the police are still over reaching their authority in a lot of cases.  The problem is people are reacting to the actions of those who are supposed to protect and serve.  All those murders are covered you mentioned above.  The reason unjustified shooting by police is covered nationally is because it's wrong.

Just like it is wrong to call any of God's children a POS.

Who's suggesting that these incidents are so black and white? Either hate all cops or accept them all? What posts are you assuming this from in this thread? It's a false dichotomy to assume that because some of us can accept there is a problem with racism in the police force that we must hate all police. Of course there are police officers that aren't racists and do their jobs just as there are police officers that hide their racism behind their badge.

It's still an issue that needs to be dealt with.

I'm liberal and I don't think the police officers in Dallas deserved to be gunned down over what other officers have done.

The assumed reason for the Dallas shootings is because of the Castile & Sterling incidents. I don't in anyway condone the behavior of the Dallas shooters, but it's quite evident why some deranged citizens might feel like this is the only way to make a point that something needs to change in regard to how some police officers deal with black citizens.

In the end, the Dallas shooters really only caused more damage to the Black Lives Matter movement and only further justified the hate and racism some have in this country for people of a different skin color.

It's a huge problem in this internet age we live in. Everyone wants to force people to the extremes. You can't speak out in favor of cops without fear of being called a racist. You can't speak out in favor of BLM without being called a cop-hater. You can't be a christian in support of gay marriage. You can't be a gay republican. You can't be a pro-life democrat. It just never ends...we aren't comfortable with letting people be, well, people. Instead we want to force them into categories and extremes. They're either for us or against us and we don't want to allow for any in-between. 

It's not just on this issue though...it's everything. Seriously, everything. We even laugh and ridicule at politicians when they flip-flop on issues. Sometimes it warrants laughter, but other times, perhaps they actually learned something and wanted to change their opinion based on facts and/or new information? It's also exacerbated by the 2-party political system, or on second thought...perhaps it's our own extreme nature that brought about the 2-party system? 

It's all cyclical and we just go round and round in circles with both sides of the extreme never able to see how they actually appear to the other side. I know people - people close to me on both sides of many hot-button issues - and the world has taught them to believe there's never any hope of a compromise or resolution. Instead, it's all about one side winning and the other losing.

The internet age we live in delivers information to us so quickly, we've come to want solutions and actions faster...even if it's the wrong solution or the wrong action. We never want to wait for ALL of the facts. This is true on both sides of the issue in nearly all of these cases. Anecdotal evidence carries more weight than facts and hard numbers. I have a communication heavy background and we studied this a lot in regards to marketing strategies and techniques. I can't remember the name of it exactly, but the basic idea is something like this: Say my mom has a Whirlpool dishwasher that fails and she tells me all the time how terrible her Whirlpool dishwasher is and how awful Whirlpool customer service is. Perhaps the numbers back her up, and perhaps they don't. The problem is if I don't do any further research, then her opinion becomes my reality and I'm probably less likely to buy a Whirlpool dishwasher even if it's the highest reviewed dishwasher among critics.

I'm fascinated by the whole idea and science behind "stereotypes," in the sense that, it's a basic function of our brain. It's how we're able to categorize and remember so much. The problem emerges when something challenges our stereotype and our brains are forced to make sense of it.
