Expectations for 2016

There's an old saying regarding young QBs...

If you can get their year 2 performance to be as good as their rookie year performance, you've made progress.

That's all I ask at this point.

I expect us to draft and sign quality players that won't get put in situations to win games by the coaches. Par for the course until we get a serious staff in. Just hope J.R. doesn't turn into the fall guy.

I dont think so..........MM for 16 games with this roster would win 6 games easy.   I think MM could really shock next yr but he needs some key pieces.

The current O line wouldn't keep him healthy 16 games, and with no run game, and no reliable receivers besides Walker, Mariota doesn't have the weapons to be successful.  The draft and free agency are going to be critical to Mariotas development. Lets hope they get it right.

I think 7 wins should be the expectation.

I expect to see improvement roughly equivalent to the Raiders. They went from 3-13 in 2014 to 7-9 in 2015. They were 4-12 in 2012 and 2013, so it's not like their 2014 season was an aberration.

The owners clearly thought Mularkey was the correct guy from the get go, so I expect to see results confirming he's a competent head coach.

People are throwing around Ron Rivera comparisons in other threads and on twitter. Following a 2-14 season by John Fox, he was 6-10 and 7-9 in his first two seasons. Cam Newton was Offensive ROY in his first year, and Luke Kuechly was Defensive ROY in his second year.

He clearly had them on the right track. They were improving and acquiring young talent.

That is what we realistically hope for at this point (rock bottom). Acquisition and development of young talent.

Very difficult to get out of the bottom

In the NFL it's actually pretty easy to get out of the bottom. Does any other league have teams go from worst to first as often as the NFL?

The Texans were 2-14 a few seasons ago after going 12-4 and went 9-7 the very next season, there are tons of other examples

This is a great year for a rebuild of the roster though.  The Titans have nobody worth mentioning leaving in FA, enough cap space to sign anyone they want, they SAID that the owner is going to be willing to spend aggressively in FA (we'll see), they have a good location and a QB and DL to attract FAs, they have the best position in the draft, and they own rights to the #1 waiver wire.

This is a huge test for Jon Robinson and while he won't be able to completely revamp the way they grade and everything this offseason we will get a big glimpse into his priorities going forward and what he looks for at certain positions.

Mularkey has to do what he's promised to do.  Fix the offensive playbook so it's easier to get plays out, make his minor scheme changes, but above all fix the protection schemes.  If you can take sacks from 50 down into the upper 20s/ lower 30s then i'm probably happy with Mularkey despite what the win/loss record is on the field.  If he does that, chances are it's pretty good.

Jason Michael and anyone else has to get with Mariota this offseason and work on some minor things to get him moving the right direction.

That's what i'm looking for.  If they move the right direction in bringing in talent, fix the offensive scheme, improve pass protection for Mariota, continue to improve on defense and cut down on broken plays even when the player is in position then i'll be happy regardless of how many wins.

I think Mularkey needs to win 9 in order to avoid big time criticism and win back the fans.  Not saying he'll do that, just saying that's what he needs to do.
