titanruss Posted May 20, 2016 Report Share Posted May 20, 2016 that krav maga video is best for showing closing speed. they are at a distance where the bat isnt going to land and the guy gets inside quick. the other thing you all are forgetting about is, this is a fight to the death. if a bat is being swung at me at connects... its gonna connect with my arm guarding my face. who cares if my arm is broken... ive got 5 slashes in before the pain kicks in from the adrenaline. break my arm... go ahead. it stops the bat long enough that i am inside and stabbing at exposed areas. Won't be a kill.shot but it definitely will stop someone from charging with a knife. And if you just swipe directly in front of you your bound to hit him. Is the bat aluminum or wood? The knife defenders seem to think the guy with the bat has only one strategy, that being a telegraphed full windup with a single haymaker type swing. The first shot doesn't have to be a kill shot, it just has to be good enough to keep you from charging me with the knife while I take shot number 2, 3, and 4. In all honesty if this were really playing out and I had the bat, I would probably just wait for the right moment to throw the bat at your head, and then kick you in the nuts as you throw your arms up over your face trying to block the bat. This is true. However, quickness means a lot more with a knife whereas size and strength mean a lot more with a bat. You have to hit pretty hard with a bat to do real damage. I feel pretty confident I could shrug off a partial swing pretty easy and i'm not a huge guy. Especially if i'm willing to eat one to the arm in order to get inside on you. I'm not saying it has to be a full haymaker but you're not going to be able to do some quick half swing and do anything. You're going to have to come from above with big time force, which leaves you open, or you're going to have to make a forceful swing at my head which leaves you off balance if you miss. Again, i'm not saying bat guy loses and if both fighters have no idea what they're doing, i'm willing to accept the logic that the bat guy has an advantage. Having said that, and playing devil's advocate some here, I think it's much closer than many of you think. Never let go of your weapon for one attack that might not even work!! That's not a good strategy! Even if you connect with the nut shot, you're probably going to get cut. There's a good chance they don't even feel that with the adrenaline rushing and now it's gonna be a lot harder to continue the fight with that guy's knife buried in your throat. I will also concede that for certain people and certain styles, the knife would be the better choice.
