scine09
I can't believe I'm saying this. They're 2-8, underperforming, blah blah blah. But I'm as excited about the future of this team as I've been in a long, long time. That front 7 is easily a top 10 unit. You have 3 possible blue chip players in that front 7, something they haven't had since, I don't know, 2003? Even in 2007 and 2008 it was Haynesworth and everyone else. And all 3 are young and either in their prime or not yet in their prime. Then you have two talented veterans signed to long term deals and a 6th guy, Woodyard, who is having a terrific season. The front 7 is only going to improve. I wouldn't be at all upset if they drafted a pass rushing LB to just make things even better there. At DB Riggs looks like a player, I think they're okay with Cox and Sensabaugh as their other top 3 even when McCourty doesn't play although depending on where they draft I could see a shutdown corner being in play. The only glaring need I see is safety where they need more depth as Griffin continues to age. And offensively despite the fact that they have absolutely zero playmakers Mariota, along with the defense, keeps them in nearly every game. I can imagine a guy like Cole Beasley watching last night's game and absolutely salivating at the chance to play with Marcus Mariota. But you add one big name in free agency (maybe Alshon Jeffrey), an under the radar guy like Beasley (I have no idea if he's even a free agent) and suddenly your passing attack instantly becomes top 10. I again felt like Andrews ran the ball really well. I don't see the RB's as an issue like many of you do. I think they need a little speed there and I haven't looked but I'd assume that they can get someone in free agency who can provide that. The biggest issue with the team is still the OL. However, Mariota's quick release negates some of that. I think Phil Simms during the game last night said that Mariota has the most compact release in football. But clearly they need to focus on finding a right tackle. I do think that good coaching as well as Mariota's release can make the line with 1 or 2 upgrades look like a very solid unit. Coaching will play itself out. Coaches will line up to coach this guy. They may be 2-8 but this is the typical 2-8 that very young teams who are growing have, not the 2-8 that you have when you're flat out terrible (like last year's Titans). I know I'll get hammered for this post but whatever. If you take a step back and actually look at what's on the football team and look past the record the cupboard isn't bare like 95% of the posts on this board would have you think. Cajuntitan
I agree with you entirely. Having a franchise QB makes this tolerable. That whole D-Line we have is buff. O-line is the issue. The whole issue. Draft the best left tackle at first or second, and sign Eric Berry. After that take a damn hard look at schwenke and Gallic, and consider upgrades there as well. Do not draft another WR this offseason. And FIRE Jefferson.
Justafan
The Oline is bare and that's a problem. They need a RT and a Center in my opinion. I'm not thrilled at RG, the jury is out on Poutasi at LG and so the only guy I like is Lewan and while I think he's above average he's not the powerhouse I thought he would be at the beginning of the season. He has games where he is flat out dominant and then he has games where he seems to get beat regularly. He got beat few times last night. I do think RB is a problem but not one we should invest big resources in. Too many other problems to go there. WR is an issue. I like DGB but he's still coming along. Douglas, Hunter, and company aren't cutting it. The good news is that with Mariota, I don't think you need dominant WRs but it's still a position that they need to invest in which is disappointing considering the investment they've already made there. On the defensive side I want depth and DB's. I want Sensebaugh gone. I have to admit he's played better down the stretch but he's been picked on all year and a major disappointment imo. I like Riggs, Cox, and BWW but I still think an early pick at Safety and CB is in order. The #1 thing though is coaching. Coaching matters and the Coaching on the offensive side of the ball isn't getting it done. I don't want to lose the defensive staff but you absolutely cannot allow this offensive staff to remain. The good news is I think Mularkey sealed his own fate with the loss to the Jags.

My question is when? When is all of this promise going to lead to wins? When is all of this promise going to lead to dominance on the field in Jacksonville, in Houston, in Indy? Next year? 2017? 2018? When is 10-6 or 11-5 coming?
currage
I hope we can keep the defensive staff together. I was surprised to see that Mularky has absolutely nothing to do with the defense at game time. When the defense was on the field he spent most of the time coaching up the TEs and OL. It appears the LeBeau and Horton have ful authority over the D. For better or worse.

Maybe the answer is letting Horton be the next HC and bringing in the best OC you can find.
OILERMAN
I agree with the overall general feeling. A potential franchise QB and good pass rush is in place. If you have that the rest is easy to build. I disagree with some of the smaller points, Andrews isn't fine, he's pitiful and needs upgrading. Also if the keep Webster then we're likely screwed. He can't build a team.

OILERMAN
Even more than talent they need to get a coach and/or GM in place that knows what they are doing.
Nash
Last night, before the game, Blaine Bishop was pitching moving Mccourtey to safety to replace Griffin, and to draft Ramsey for CB.. this should solidify the secondary for a few years.. We likely will have the first pick in the draft this year.. we are #1 today with the loss last pm.. so trading down to allow another team to take the qb is essential in my opinion
titanfan24
I don't disagree with anything you have said. A league-average head coach and GM could do some things here with this team. Give me a franchise QB and a pass rush and you can address the rest. We need OL and WR help. Also need an upgrade at RB and some young legs at S. Hue or Gase and a competent GM could get us to respectability in a year or two

KnoxTitan
Good post. There are units on this team that could perform at an elite level (QB, DL), but they're being dragged down by absolutely horrific units in front (OL) and behind (DB's). I'll give the DB's a pass, sort of, because they look a lot different when McCourty is out there. The OL is horrific. The OL coach needs to be locked out of the building on Monday morning. Lewan hasn't turned into the monster LT he should be - he's been merely above average. Looney is bad, Gallick is bad (but he's in a tough spot), Warmack is merely average, Bell is bad. I watch other teams with franchise QB's, and I say "What can't we have nice things too?". Well now, for the first time since Steve, I find myself thinking that we have our guy. I've never been so excited about a bad football team.
Face
I agree largely with Scine. I disagree with the those who think a new coach will fix everything. Wiz & Mularkey have very good reps as offensive coaches & neither of them can do a thing. A new HC will be exciting, but this team needs talent a lot more than a coach on offense. scine09
It'll be amazing how much better they'll look with just 2 playmakers on offense. Forget the oline for a second.
