Titans279
I think it's more he needs to learn when a play is done, and letting it go is the better decision. He ran a few plays, but didn't slide and took several big hits because of it. The play where he lost his shoe and got creamed? Should have came to the conclusion it was over and dumped it off or otherwise protected himself. He's a competitor for sure, but he's got to understand better to live to fight another down in this league. I think if his shoe doesn't come off as he changes direction he hits Wright who is wide open breaking the same way Mariota tried to turn.
SleepingTitan
It is getting real old season after season where one QB can't finish all sixteen games. There is no other team like this one in the league especially in regards to the QB position. The last ten years we have had a different leading passer each season. Has there even been a season since they've moved to Nashville where one QB played all sixteen games? We should have never drafted Locker. Friends don't let friends draft 55% college passers. It looked that way to me too. Woulda-shoulda-coulda.
Superhorn
The second half adjustment to run heavy and remove pressure on MM was exactly what you'd want from a coach trying to physically protect him. Would be nice if he wouldn't get into stretches like the end of the first half where he passed 9 straight times. Moreover, still has an overwhelming tendency to pass out of gun and run from under center.

You totally stole the thunder of my eventual rejoinder where I cite your tweets from earlier and argue against myself that he's partially to blame! Aramis
Meredith or Bell at RT really doesn't solve anything so we are better off letting the rookie play and learn and help him when we can with the scheme. They can use Fowler more in passing situations since he is a decent receiver anyway. That gives us a pretty darn good blocker who can pick up the blitz or help Poutasi. We can chip with one of the half dozen TEs we have out there. Or we can have quick drops. We can even run at Poutasi's side, screen that way or run draws between him and Warmack and slow down the rush that way as well. How so? Meredith is a vet with experience in the league playing as a RT and Poutasi was reported as being a natural fit at guard. So lets say, while Chance is out, we move Poutasi to RG and he proves to be an improvement over Warmack. Meredith then moves to RT and solidifies the RT spot. Wouldn't that be better than enduring the garbage that's been Warmack/Poutasi on the right side? Sure it's hypothetical, but it can't be much worse than what we've already been dealing with. OILERMAN
I suppose we could go back and forth who is better or worse, Meredith or Poutasi. Fine. But saying Meredith is going to solidify the RT spot is way off the wall. I just think you are giving Meredith way too much credit. Poutasi gave up 4 sacks Sunday and has been pitiful in pass protection. It's not about Meredith being some great OT, it's about possibly replacing Poutasi because he can't do the job
rns90
Serious question: Is it possible that Poutasi is an idiot like Locker/VY? I swear a couple of those sacks he offered zero resistance and I refuse to believe that he is that slow that he couldn't have gotten out there to at least block the guy. Titans279
Give Poutasi more time. We knew it would be rough with a rookie QB and a rookie RT. Some people also want to have a rookie #1 WR out there too as if it would be all rainbows and sunshine.

Because I think that's the point of this thread...

Face
Poutasi had a great game against the Bucs (PFF of +2.0) so we can freak out over this last performance and start moving people around, which might end up having Poutasi at one of the OG spots where we have never seen him in the pre-season, or we can keep a clear head and support the kid a little better and let him work things out. Meredith is a journeyman who is lucky to have made a roster. He solidified nothing last year playing both OTs for us. If we put Bell out there we might be better than Meredith. I agree. The kid just turned 21, let's see a few more games before stressing out. Obviously if it gets to the point where Mariota is just getting killed, make a move. But having a guy that can run block like him at tackle, even RT, is huge. And if Warmack could grow a sack we'd have a monster run blocking right side.
