oldschool
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpwTWSaERUI Just because its more fun than the current conversation. I don't feel like rehashing our old argument but I'll reiterate a few points for all the newcomers. I acknowledge Soccer is growing but it doesn't touch the major sports and won't anytime soon. The simple reason for that is that the NFL, NHL, MLB, and the NBA are all the pinnacle of their sports. Even though MLS as attracted more stars since the last debate it doesn't mean it's still not far below the South American Club circuit as well as numerous leagues in Europe. For MLS to make the leap to a true Pro sport in this country they'll have to close the gap. I don't see that happening as most of the best soccer players in the world are foreign and would play in those leagues over the MLS if given the chance. Secondly, Americans have a superiority complex and take issue with the fact It's the "World's Sport". We still have too many rednecks in the country who dismiss anything that comes from outside our borders that isn't considered a threat. Soccer is considered foreign by Rural America and thats not changing anytime soon. On a side note, I always find it fascinating that people call Soccer boring. It's a tactical game and the subtlety of is lost on a lot of people. I especially find it odd when people that like Hockey say things like this. The two games are very similar. h4t
Horse racing-probably more viewers for the Belmont Stakes than any soccer event except possibly a world cup game the US is in of any significance.

I think I've grown a bit since our earlier discussion regarding this issue. I get pulled into debates too easily when I see someone saying something that is just wrong in my opinion. I don't know if it will overtake some of those or not. It may. There are some metrics you could point to. But I don't really care. I am simply happy it is growing and able to bring in guys that I like to watch. This last couple of years they've brought in Dempsey, Bradley, Jozy, Jermaine Jones, and Mix. All guys that LOVE to watch play. They are developing young US talent that are doing well at the profestsional level early and young. The are bringing guys in like the "Atomic Ant" from Series A- a top elite level talent in his PRIME. They are simply putting out a good product that I really enjoy. For the first time ever (I think)- I've watched more MLS than EPL this year. ITs fun. I am enjoying it. I just want a team that's closer dang it! Mythos27
Damn, before he got into the "English motherfucker, do you speak it"? stuff I actually understood where @scine09 was coming from and he has a point. What I think he was getting at is that though soccer appears to be growing the growth isn't due to winning over and thus converting people born and raised in America, who are fans of the major sports, and weren't brought up in an environment that loves soccer. The growth in his view is coming from people that grew up in countries that love soccer and have simply brought their love of soccer with them when they immigrated. While in the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter (the sport is still growing and immigrant money is green too) I understand the distinction. Am I misinformed or is there chatter about John Terry possibly signing with an MLS after leaving Chelsea?

scine09
Our country is NAMED after an Itallian (very close in language to spanish) We were "discovered" by a Portugese guy (Or Nordic Vikings)... and even for 25+ years AFTER the American Revolution, two-thirds of the country was Spanish owned/controlled. This country is only 240 years old and has only had 50 states for 55 years. Our culture is not old enough to be set in stone. We dont have a unified culture. We have a unified "white" culture... but thats not fair to the rest. You sound mad because you speak english and that is what you are used to and you dont like progress. It sounds like a too old and too ignorant argument honestly. "Progress?" lol what "progress" do we need? This is the greatest country in the world. If it wasn't people wouldn't be moving here, they'd be moving away from here.
scine09
Scine this opinion makes no logical sense. Who cares what langauge someone else speaks? Do you know what one one of the best elementary schools in Nashville is? A Spanish immersion school. Our culture is not a static thing. Better get used to it because the spanish langauge influence is just going to grow. I'm aware.

scine09
Fucking Amen! @Scine09 on a rockstar rampage today My guess is this is the thought process of the majority of people in the US it's just that people don't like to share these opinions because they're not "politically correct."
