Someone that comes to this country from a non-English speaking country is always going to be more comfortable speaking their native language. Tell me how you would change the citizenship rules to fix this problem. Learn the language if you want to live here. And speak it. Or move back to your native country. First of all - lol Second of all, do you see the difference between being able to "speak the language," and that language being your second, and therefore less comfortable, language? ESPN, Fox, invested in an 8 year deal because they see the market growing over the next 8 years. You can read several articles that say the same. It isn't there yet, but it is growing. I personally, am not sure TV viewership is the best way to view it. There are too many other mediums to watch TV now. I watch via MLS live. I rarely ever watch a game live for two reasons. I don't have a local team to follow religiously. That's an issue that MLS has to fix and they are doing that by continued expansion. Two, what team gets TV team in a give market is pretty random. I can't just follow Toronto FC every game on live TV. Some of their games get shown where I am and some dont. So I watch via MLS live. We'd have a league in America bigger than a glorified minor league league. Yes... and it went through a pretty big contraction. It couldn't pay stars. It was a glorfied minor league that didn't make money. If an 8 year deal with three major networks, per game attendance numbers that are top 3 in all American sports don't tell you that... there is no point. It started very small. It dipped for a period and its booming now. All the metrics year to year show that. You have an opinion with no facts to back it up. The answer to the first thing is because English is the language of the country and many people are moving here to have a better life. But yet they refuse to adapt to our culture. The answer to the 2nd one is pretty much the same. My wife and I walk at a school in a fairly big city during our lunch break. And it's right next to a high school. Sometimes the students walk to the bus. And you know what we hear? Spanish. It's so disrespectful in our opinions and is not doing them any good for their future here. Our country is NAMED after an Itallian (very close in language to spanish) We were "discovered" by a Portugese guy (Or Nordic Vikings)... and even for 25+ years AFTER the American Revolution, two-thirds of the country was Spanish owned/controlled. This country is only 240 years old and has only had 50 states for 55 years. Our culture is not old enough to be set in stone. We dont have a unified culture. We have a unified "white" culture... but thats not fair to the rest. You sound mad because you speak english and that is what you are used to and you dont like progress. Most would say the culture adapts to those that come here as much as the reverse. Heck most of our food has origins from around the world. Why is language adoption so important to you? It's their life. Last I heard this was the land of the free.. not the land the " you must conform to Scine' way" The answer to the 2nd one is pretty much the same. OH MY GOSH- THEY SPEAK SPANISH IN PUBLIC OUTSIDE A HIGH SCHOOL!!! That's almost as bad as high school students who speak English throwing profanity everywhere!!! The horror! It's so disrespectful in our opinions and is not doing them any good for their future here. Scine this opinion makes no logical sense. Who cares what langauge someone else speaks? Do you know what one one of the best elementary schools in Nashville is? A Spanish immersion school. Our culture is not a static thing. Scine is clearly of European descent so his stance on this is mind boggling. The truth is unless you are Native American, you or your family immigrated to this country. I've got news for scine too. My Wife is 4th generation Italian and her Great Grandparents didn't speak English despite being in the U.S. for 30 years. Her Grandparents spoke both English and Italian but only spoke the latter at home and frequently when speaking to other Italians. If we weren't, we'd all be living in teepees... We would be far, FAR poorer today without the immeasurable contributions of immigrants. Close to home, Miami, FL was a non-distinct tourist town before the Cuban immigration of the '60's. Now all of South FL is like 1 big thriving city. My first boss had recently emigrated from Cuba. Talked like a Tommy gun going off, but I got used to it. And he was one smart dude, starting with hiring me right out of school. Company Softball teams wanted to recruit Cuban players, as they all seemed to be good. A few opinions here - Most immigrants DO learn English, but when uniting with countrymen or older family will converse in their original language. No problem for me. I've read where it's good for the brain to speak multiple languages. I will say our society should NOT feel obligated to speak/write THEIR native language; this actually hurts them in the long run by limiting their audience.
