titanruss Posted June 4, 2015 Report Share Posted June 4, 2015 I think more like a statistical reality, particularly in the area where we live. I went to high school with a pretty diverse group, and the only people I knew who were soccer fans were Hispanic. No doubt it is on the rise, but I'd be very surprised to see the sport surpass the 4 major sports in America in my lifetime, as others have noted. Granted, I don't watch any other sports or invest any energy in them other than professional football, aside from going to a hockey game once every couple years. Just look at history. WHen have the 4 major sports been popular? They've all traded turns at the top multiple times with the exception of hockey. Basketball has only been relevant 35 years... football for 55 years and baseball for a little over 100. Soccer could replace hockey easily. Baseball is on it's way out unless they adjust the game. I don't care about game attendance. It's meaningless. No one goes to Tampa Bay Rays games. They get, what, 10,000 a game? Who do you think is watched more on TV? Baseball is #2 and it's not close. And soccer has no chance in hell to ever replace hockey. I think basketball is #2 now over baseball. Actually the ratios are pretty similar or even favorable comparing Big 3 to NFL and MLS to Big 3. This isn't the best comparison but the Super Bowl this year got about 114.5 million viewers. The MLS cup got 0.9 Million. The first game of the Stanley Cup Final got 4.23 million. World series got 12.1. Latinos! I'll put on ESPN in October and listen to all the analysis of the MLS playoffs. Then I'll do the same in March for the tournament. That ESPN doesn't even cover! Which do you think I'll hear more of? Why do you think that is? Unless your point is that most soccer fans don't speak English and that ESPN Deportes is covering the MLS playoffs. In general you still have to take a plane if you're from one of those countries to get here. And Canada is a great country. It's still not the US, however. I dont get your point. You are agreeing with me that it is much more difficult to sneak into a country illegally if you have to fly there? If thats not what you are saying then I gotta let you know that they dont share a fucking border that people play volleyball across. It's availability thing. I'm not current on what is biggest but I know way more people that have been getting into basketball the last couple years and a large amount of complaints that baseball is just boring unless you go to a game.
