I'm not saying that you need that many posts in order to be a fan, but anyone who dedicates that much energy to a fansite for a team is a fan of that team (or a sad case of obsessive troll like ManningEnvy). I didn't give a shit about the Oilers until they moved to Tennessee. Had no reason to. I knew hew Earl Campbell was and Moon but they are just names of great players to me - I never rooted for them. Waited my whole life for my state to get a team and we got one and I have been diehard ever since. While I recognize the Oiler history is Titans history, if you didn't cheer for the Oilers, it would be totally poserish to pretend a love for a team from a different city, with a different name, different colors and a different logo. I personally get a bit pissed when Titans fans completely dismiss the Oilers' history in a tone that expresses it is beneath them while in the same breath elevating the move to Tennessee as the new covenant. To me it is the same thing. Being a fan of the Oilers does not make one superior. And the native Ten fans seem to have a chip on their shoulder that makes me think they feel this way. Plenty of Oilers fans stopped being Oilers fans when they left TX. And then you have some percentage of Oilers fans, probably most of whom weren't in Houston, stuck with their team. And some become fans because they draft your favorite player. There's no wrong way to be a fan other than perhaps being just a fair weather fan. But I do care about the Oilers legacy and the history of the team even though my interest in that aspect isn't as vested as some of the old school Oilers fans. It was simply before my time. In the early 2000's and even into the Munchak years, the Oilers history was very vibrant, both the Tennessee Oilers and the Houston Oilers. Guys like EG and McNair weren't THAT far gone (having retired a few years prior), and coaches like Munchak, Gregg Williams, Jeff Fisher (obviously), Jerry Gray, Steve Brown, Frank Bush, George Henshaw, Les Steckel, etc. etc. all had ties to Oilers and to the transition period. Plus Bud Adams was still alive, drafted a bunch of Texas football players, etc. etc. The ties have just always been very strong. It is only now that the era of the Tennessee Titans, free and clear of direct association with the Oiler blues, has truly begun. This transition will be completed further when a new President and CEO is hired. But I still think even new fans should embrace the history even though they have no emotionally vested interest in it. Even when the Titans wear throwbacks, they fucking cry about that. Most of the fans that spew this nonsense are the main ones that are talking down to young kids saying they need to respect their history. Ingrates...
