Guest
Last season, I wasn't following the long term implications of Clowney's injury or thinking about the lasting effects of and chance of recovery from microfracture surgery. This morning when I was driving to work The Sports Junkies (DC talk radio goobers) had Will Carroll, who specializes in sports injuries on to discuss Rose among others. When Clowney came up his prognosis was pretty damning: called microfracture surgery a "Hail Mary" said that big offensive linemen are typically the only ones who recover from it not about the weight put on it but the lateral movement and quickness said there was no good comparison said the best comparison was GREG ODEN A comparison to Greg Oden is never a good thing. I hadn't realized how bad the odds were in JC's favor. Of course, nothing is for certain and he could make a comeback but according to Carroll the odds are better than not that he has no real career in the NFL. If so, the Titans (who are on the verge of potentially drafting a monster Defensive Lineman themselves) and the rest of the AFC South dodged a serious bullet. freakingeek
It's pretty devastating to a franchise to lose a high pick like that. Those kind of picks don't come around very often and generally you hope to get a franchise type player.
titansfan
I hope he recovers well.. Never want to see such a young players career ruined and cut short
scine09
That's a terrific comparison.
Tim
He's done from pretty much everything I've read. I feel bad for the guy I guess, but not for the Texans.
tgo
I'm so happy the Texans wasted the first overall pick.
Face
The best part is the Texans clearly wanted to trade out but couldn't because the media would rip them for not getting the correct value in the "trade chart".
IsntLifeFunny
If the guy never plays another snap he will go down as an all time genius for coasting his last year and waiting till the pros for a diagnosis. I wonder how much of his overall contract is guaranteed for injury.
Number9
I feel bad for JC. I also feel bad for the game. I would have liked to see him playing his best ball along with JJ Watt.
Omar
Sucks for him personally.. But he did get 15 million.
socaltitan
Texans really blew that first draft under O'Brien. Picked Clowney over Mack. Waited too long to take a QB and took Savage over Mett.
socaltitan
A comparison to Greg Oden is never a good thing. I hadn't realized how bad the odds were in JC's favor Obviously with the benefit of hindsight, the Blazers taking Oden over Durant was a horrible move. I thought Oden was a slam dunk pick at the time. I thought Durant was going to be excellent as well, but Oden looked like the next Tim Duncan. The Blazers drafted Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan and Greg Oden over Kevin Durant.....ouch
AvgJoe
I said all along they should have picked Mack

There's not a GM in the history of basketball who would've passed on Oden in that draft.
Btowner
If the guy never plays another snap he will go down as an all time genius for coasting his last year and waiting till the pros for a diagnosis. I wonder how much of his overall contract is guaranteed for injury. He got injured during the NFL season. Not in college. He jumped and landed on one of the seams in the turf. Players have constantly complained about the playing surface. Yet the Texans have not fixed the issue. According to players, it's uneven, there are seams. http://houston.cbslocal.com/2014/11/02/eagles-players-rip-nrg-stadium-turf/ "The turf has been at the center of controversy since NRG Stadium opened in 2002. Former Texans punter Brett Hartmann in 2012 sued the county that operates the stadium, alleging “unsafe turf” was to blame for a career-ending ACL injury. New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick called it “one of the worst fields (he’s) seen” after then-wide receiver Wes Welker blew out his ACL on it in 2010. More recently, Texans safety D.J. Swearinger said 2014 No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney told him that Clowney’s meniscus tear Week 1 against Washington was caused by the field. At issue is how the surface is created, by laying together a series of square panels that are grown outside the stadium and carted in. As a result, there are often holes, seams and uneven levels of turf that, players say, isn’t safe."
