ctm
Mett showed a lot of good, but a lot of bad as well. I though everyone got so happy about him during his Sr year with Cameron, I simply recall him his Jr. year where'd he'd make an awesome throw followed up by a completely bone-headed play. Has been hard for me to forget those games I saw. And I really don't think you can underestimate that he had 3 WRs (including Mr All-World Odell Beckham Jr), 2 RBs (including Jeremy Hill) and a 3rd rd Guard all playing with him as Srs that same year. Just overwhelming talent at skill positions. Might have led to some bad habits, like standing in the pocket all day when you got a line like theirs protecting you. I think if he can speed up his clock and increase his pocket awareness, he has a legit shot to be a decent QB. More concerned about those 2 things than mobility. His arm is solid and not an issue at all. That all being said, if you could combine the best traits of Mariota and Winston into one guy, I'd draft him at 2 in a sec. Of course, he'd probably go #1. Just not thrilled with either guy that high, even if one or both do turn out to be great QBs down the road. I think the best reason the FO takes a QB high is if they have decided they simply don't believe in Mett as a worker and leader based on what they saw last year (I have no idea). Otherwise you roll with him and pick another guy midrounds and/or get a decent vet in FA and move on. In 2012 Mett had 1 sack per 11 pass attempts at LSU. In 2013 it was 1 per 14. Last year with the Titans it was 1 per 10. Very similar numbers over 3 years. By comparison Luck last year was 1 per 23 attempts. In the end the comparison to Luck is all that matters because that is what will help decide games on the field and the division. Comparisons to Locker, other rookie QBs and a generic comparison between mobile vs. pocket QBs are all irrelevant to deciding games.

socaltitan
Luck gets hit as much as any QB in the league. He does a great job avoiding sacks but he definitely takes a ton of hits
Mythos27
The LSU offensive line Mett played behind was no where near as good as advertised. Go back and watch all is throws on draftbreakdown.com and you'll see what I mean. Kid faced a lot of pressure. Our line was worse than theirs though. I'll be real though, his ugly games were pretty ugly. He made a lot of bad decisions and straight up forced a lot of throws at times.A few of those videos weren't up on youtube when I was scouting him after the draft last year and I hadn't found draftbreakdown.com yet. Thankfully, he looked a lot more disciplined with us this year and I loved how he literally improved every time I saw him play for us. If we can get a solid line in front of him he will flourish, if we can't he's done for.
Guest
I really like Mett. I think he's the QB of the Future, or at least our best bet right now. But he will never be as good as Andrew Luck. So any comparison there doesn't make much sense unless you're using it as a benchmark for greatness or comparing him as a rookie to Mett as a rookie. The only game he didn't show blatant improvement over the previous game was the last game he played in where he was playing injured and got injured again. Was that the Giants game? IsntLifeFunny
Mett also has his own limitations. For one, he's extremely immobile. That's leads to sacks, forced fumbles and injuries. In addition that limits his ability to extend plays when the pocket breaks down. Two of the top 4 QBs in the league are just as immobile. His mobility isn't what led to the sacks. His sieve of an offensive line and his propensity to hold the ball too long were.

Sadly I agree. Luck just really has it all. He does everything Mett can do and can extend plays. That's tough to beat. Luckily we don't need Mett to be better than Luck just better than Luck's defense and occasionally outplay him.

Yeah, i believe it was. I couldn't really watch that game though. It was tough to see him thrown to the wolves like that. I felt bad for Jake too. No one should have to put up with that kind of beating.

His sieve of an offensive line and his propensity to hold the ball too long were. I still don't get why people insist on throwing those sacks solely on Mett when it's proven that mobile guys can get sacked like crazy too. Just this season we saw it happen to Romo, Big Ben, and Russell Wilson. Sacks are on the O-line unless the QB is holding onto the ball for an unreasonably long amount of time. Mett did hold the ball some this year but it was never some egregious amount of time that absolves the OL from fault.

By the time the Hou and Giants games rolled around I noted more than a couple times where Mett didn't even plant on a 7 step drop before getting hit. Face
Mett has been compared to Drew Bledsoe, a QB many see as one of the most immobile of all time. More than Brady and Manning. To be that immobile as a rookie is concerning. You guys need to stop denying his weaknesses because you want so badly for him to succeed. His mobility is a problem. And will only work unless he's elite on the cerebral side of things. If he isn't great at making proper pre-snap adjustment as TGO said and if he isn't above average in the short game ... we're in trouble. That's the thing though Big, most here do acknowledge his weaknesses. My beef with the original article wasn't the faults Gower mentioned, it's the positives he omitted.
