This was an article about what each AFC South team should do in the offseason to improve: Tennessee Titans: Use the No. 2 overall pick on Jameis Winston The Titans desperately need a long-term answer at quarterback. Not since Steve McNair did it in 2002 and 2003 has a Tennessee signal-caller started at least 10 games in consecutive seasons. No answer is on the roster. Jake Locker is heading to free agency and will not return. Charlie Whitehurst is a career backup. Zach Mettenberger is not the answer either. Because he was a sixth-round pick, we did not give him an official projection. Our Long-Term Career Forecast suggested, however, that he was the least-likely to succeed of the top nine quarterbacks in last year's draft. His play on the field was mostly dismal. He had a worse Total QBR than every qualified quarterback except Blake Bortles. He was worse than Locker and Whitehurst by both DVOA and Total QBR. He wrote a piece last week saying he didn't like Mettenberger before the draft, and still doesn't. Said if you liked him before the draft, you probably still do. While you correctly discussed the long offensive droughts the team suffered when Mett was QB I think you overlooked the explosive plays he made, and he made a bunch of them. Until the Giant game, which was a trainwreck due to OL issues, he had a huge YPA number. Also, while the overall metrics indicate he was the worst of the 3 QB's I think his 10 qtrs against Pitt, Philly, and Houston was by far the best stretch of QBing the team had. And I'm ready to go to Mett this year. There's no problem at all. And I appreciate the analysis. You can't argue against the stats, but there's so much more to the equation than the metrics used. I'm more concerned with traits that he has proven to be translatable (and his ability to learn and operate a complex NFL offense) than situational statistics on a terrible football team and the most complicated offense Tennessee has ever run.
