Jonboy
Despite all the activity on the board lately, I've seen very little in reference to our upcoming game against the Browns. Seemingly stuck in the doldrums year after year, the Browns haven't seen the playoffs since 2002 when Kelly Holcomb was their QB. The Browns enter the game against TN at 1-2 and coming off their bye. Their 2 losses, Pittsburgh and Baltimore, were by a combined 5 points. They beat the Saints by 2 and they've been far more competitive than most expected. The Titans are favored by 1-3 points depending on your betting site of choice, which for a home team isn't all that much. The game is expected to be close and is essentially considered a tossup by Vegas. Among Titans fans, however, I get the sense that a win is very much expected. In my eyes, I'm not sure a win against the Browns would really do anything to reverse the negative feelings we currently have about the team (I mean...they are still the Browns). But what would a loss do for the fanbase? What would it mean for Whiz and Locker? What changes would need to happen sooner rather than later? How in the world would they fill the stadium the following week when another lowly foe, the Jags, comes to town?
Jas
Among Titans fans, however, I get the sense that a win is very much expected. Before the season and after the KC game I expected this to be a win. After the last three weeks, I'll be surprised by a win.
Rogue
If Locker throws another piss poor game, and it's largely on him, in a reasonable town it would be the end of Locker. But it's not a reasonable town, so we'll have to wait and hopefully win against the Jags, so everyone can cheer how great it is. We are addicted to mediocrity. I don't know that I'm expecting a win here. Browns have been competitive in their games, we have not remotely been competitive. I'd like to see something turn around here, but my hopes are not high. Jonboy
"Expecting" a win may have been the wrong word. Maybe more along the lines of "we better win this, or else..."
Jamalisms
Fanbase would check out, Locker's momentum goodbye only continued, Whiz take silly heat and questions about whether he's a good coach, mass panic and sold but unused tickets. Face
I'll say this, I know Shanny Jr is a douche of the highest order, but he's an excellent OC. The guy gets a lot out of his units.

I wonder about the fan base. They were sold on Jake before the season started. They were energized to boo much better QBs than Jake. I think they are like little kids with a broke toy they loved. They just sit frustrated, not knowing what to do. They wish mommy(Tommy Smith) could fix it, but they know she doesn't really know shit about fixing toys. So they just sit there sad faced and wish it was just a bad dream. They wish deep inside that if they just believed harder Jake could throw a pass in the right direction. Hell, Steve was not that bright and he could do it, most definitely. Even that idiot Vince Young could have some great games sometimes. WHY WON'T MY FAVORITE TOY RUN? I'll just sit here and hope nobody notices I still hoping my broke toy will run.
CreepingDeath
I'd like a win. More so, I'd like a win that wasn't full of ugly play (those don't really make me happy unless vs teams I hate). And with me being down on this year's team (with no real expectations anyway), I'm not going to be any more pissed if they do lose. It's a "whatever" game. Now if they come out playing awesome - that's a different story!
cenj
The Browns are a better team and we have been destroyed the last 3 weeks (& are dead last in the NFL in a number of weird and depressing stats). The Locker experiment is over and we have to find a new QB. We also need multiple pass rushers. I don't think losing means anything except a continued status quo. I've already been offered free tickets to the home games this year because people don't want to go, and it's too much hassle to sell them (because no one else wants to go). If we win and our QB looks good, then that might mean something different. But this franchise's morale has been in the dumps for several years now. Alcibiades
This thread is depressing, not because of what is being said but because of how accurate it is...
AFCman
MAYBE Locker will have an outstanding game.....it's possible. But most of the fans have checked out on him. Locker will be on a VERY short leash and if he comes out and does poorly the fans are gonna pounce. Same thing with the WR's too. I fully expect boos and Mett chants. We knew this was a rebuild, but we weren't expecting to be THIS bad. That's the real shocker. Another ugly loss would mean a return to apathy. Mercalius
I fully expect this game to be the official turning point (as far as media and local reporting goes) where the Jake Locker experiment is deemed over. The Browns aren't a great team, but they're a good team so far this season. However, national perception is still very low for them, and even many Titans fans view them as a team that is below us. Their reputation is much worse than their actual on-field ability, and they have a very real potential of coming into LP Field and walking out with a win. Losing to them, in anything short of nail-biter fashion, will only further the apathy of the fanbase and be another notch in the embarrassment column. Unless it's one of those Packers vs Cardinals playoff losses from a few years ago (where Rodgers and Warner both threw for five zillion yards) any type of loss to the Browns will only further sully what little reputation Jake Locker has left. If he lays up another stinker like he did against the Bengals and Cowboys, Whisenhunt will be bombarded from the fans and media alike. Hell, unless he comes out and completely reverses his recent play by throwing for 250+ and no/minimal turnovers, it already may be unavoidable. I'm fully expecting the former and not the latter. At that point, the most likely scenario IMO, it's basically over for him, and would be the perfect time for Whisenhunt to insert Zach as the starter with another easy-ish game coming up against the Jaguars. The only chance Jake has to save himself, or even buy himself a few more weeks (in my opinion), is having a near career-best day for himself with a Titans win. I just don't see it happening. code
Here's my take. Ask the Chiefs fans the same question after week 1. Then ask the question today after MNF. The people who post on-line are more vested then the average fan. We overanalyze. We are the first to fall in love, and the fastest to fall out of love. Many Titan fans still want the best for Jake. Some likely believe that given health and adequate experience, he can succeed. Very few casual fans are discussing his read progressions, his ball location, or his pocket presence. They go to games, they look for completed passes to receivers. They don't spend volumes on his footwork or his ability to throw on the move. So if Jake comes out against Cleveland, completes passes, scored touchdowns, and the Titan win ... the fan base will have something positive to rally around. If Jake comes out and turds it up (again), then it will get ugly. 2-3 is very different then 1-4. I will say this. If Jake goes 30-35 for 300 yards and no INTS but we lose by double digits, his play will be forgotten, overlooked, ignored and the 1-4 non-competitive team effort will be the talk of the town. Truth be told, Chief fans were suicidal. Now they are riding high in the saddle. As for MY expectations ... I think any win at this point is a big win. I would not predict a single Titan win on the schedule until they actually have played a second game in which the offense, defense and special teams are competitive. And the Browns have a bit of momentum. Hoyer has played well. They have a real defense with exceptional corners. And while they have even fewer quality skill players then we do, I would argue that their scheme appears to be better fitted to their personnel at this time. I expect a Brown 3-7 point victory. I hope I am wrong. But no part of this season to date gives me confidence that the Titans should expect to beat anyone.
