Pretty tough schedule for the Fisher King

if you play in the NFC, it's pretty brutal

Making the schedule is a 3-month a year job when you work 7 days a week and not just 9-5. The NFL has to deal with networks and satisfy them while also making sure that each team has no more than 3 home and road games together, making sure that the NY teams and Bay Area teams aren't playing at the same time except for week 17, making sure that the teams who share either a stadium or parking lot with a baseball team isn't home the week that the baseball team is home (the Pirates are on the road week 1 so naturally the Steelers were going to get a home game), making sure that the two Sunday afternoon networks (CBS, Fox) gets at least 5 games a week with at least 3 of them being the early game and making sure that each network has at least one attractive game, making sure that no team gets no more than 5 primetime games but at least 1 Thursday night game and no more than 3 Sunday night or Monday night games, making sure that a team who plays on the road on a Thursday is at home the week before and that a team playing on the road on a Thursday isn't traveling 3 time zones. I could go on and on. The Titans are not a team who they are going to base their schedule around but they still have to balance the schedule. If you notice the Titans have 4 of their 1st 8 games at home and 4 of their last 8 games at home. That's not random. Making a perfect schedule is one of the toughest things that you will ever have to do which is why they have a committee who looks at schedules (more than 50,000) to find the perfect schedule that meets all of the NFL's requirements while satisfying the league and the teams to the best of their abilities.

I don't see a conspiracy, I see a bad football team. They get the same cap numbers and revenue sharing deals as the other teams. Pick better players, hire better coaches and it wouldn't matter who is on the damn schedule. You think the Pats, Packers, Saints or Falcons are sitting around whining like small children because of their schedule. HELL NO! Because they know they can beat anyone on the schedule.

It's so unfair.  What's with all those away games?!!  I counted 8.  That seems like too many. 

 

And I would have preferred that the first 6 games be Jax, at Jax, Jax, Jax, Jax, at Jax. That way, at least we would have a shot at starting 3-3.

STL does draw ARI week 1. But then 6 of their next 7 games are against ATL, DAL, SF, HOU, CAR, and SEA. In the second half of the schedule, they play SF again, SEA again, and they also have to play against IND, NO, and CHI

I cant imagine how tough it is to create an NFL schedule but the teams that arent good and dont share facilities are a complete afterthought. That has nothig to do with difficulty but the only thing a scheduler has to do when thinking of the titans or browns is when do these f'n guys have to play on thurs.

Does any of this really matter? Most people around here are incredibly quick to explain any success down to weak scheduling, and then we complain when a schedule appears tough in spots? Good teams don't care, and if you don't think this is a good team, then what do you want, a easier schedule for one or two extra pointless wins?

Open weeks 1 with 2 of their 3 toughest games for the entire season, at Pittsburgh and at NYJ.

Their 2 toughest games of the season will be week 6 in Seattle and week 14 at Denver. The Rams are also much better than Pittsburgh.

If the Titans have improved at all this year, they will have a more than decent chance of beating the Steelers, even on the road.

Also Houston won't be as good this year either, their offense has become 1-dimensional. The Texans passing game will be even worse.

And the Colts won't come close to last season's 11-5 record, so Tennessee should have little problem going 3-3 in the division this year.

Schedule does make a difference, but it usually isn't known until game-time because it depends on the injury report.  Most teams are healthier early in the year, but there are always those injuries that occur in training camp that limit a team out of the gate....hopefully that is the case with the Steelers, Texans, and Chargers. 

 

The big date is November 3rd....who wants to make a poll as to which excuse Oilerman and CTF will use to explain away Fisher getting his ass kicked?
