We can’t just blindly make that assumption though. He has only played 1 year at TE and was not productive as the year progressed. He’s more a developmental player than a guy ready to contribute now. With a 7th rd pick normally you are kind of betting against them, but when you draft a guy like this you are doing so with the understanding you will need patience and growing pains for him to become what you hope. If he can’t play TE (or FB or whatever position) then he won’t be active on game day. If he isn’t active on game day then he can’t play ST. He is going to have to beat out DMR and/or Granson to make the roster. A backup LB or edge would likely have the same ST impact on coverage teams anyway. And he did it, because he's good as fuck. Unlike those other guys, who played at small schools and are floundering around the bottom of NFL rosters. What they do on offense is almost meaningless if they are one of the top STs players. None of DMR, Granson or Kanak are going to get meaninful TE snaps ahead of Helm or Bellinger.
