Doesn’t change the fact that betting on developmental guys at arguably the second most important position in football isnt a smart strategy. Yeah... but if we're not taking an OT at 4 and RG is the more pressing/immediate need (it is) that we'll likely have to address in the 2nd round, then by the 3rd round aren't we entering into developmental range by default? Late round QBs working out is rare... but also late round QBs never get the leash or opportunities and basically have to win the job over more expensive / seasoned guys immediately in order to maintain a roster spot. Where as worse guys with flashier traits may get several years to prove themselves. There's also not enough QB reps to develop later drafted players. So a big part of the QB argument is essentially that even if all things were equal, 1st round QBs will pan out more because of the investment put into 1st round QBs. The exact same player drafted in the 5th will fail significantly more because the leash is short and the money is cheap.
