I certainly think it will end up pitting the dragons was the Others/White Walkers. (For those who don't know, the White Walkers were called the Others in the book, but they changed that for TV because of Lost). The Fire God is clearly set against the Others, but I'm not sure if they would be aligned with or against Daenerys and the dragons. Presumably with her.

Of course Bran and his powers are headed North beyond the Wall to find the 3 Eyed Raven, so that will fit in somewhere as well.

As for Arya (and I think Tyrion is the other major figure, and possibly Jamie), it's unclear how they will figure in.

Yeah, I forgot about Tyrion and Jamie.

I know some things about Arya's future that I probably shouldn't considering I haven't read the books but I of course can't get into it. I should probably add that I don't know enough to know if she survives or not though so don't read much into that.

Well for anyone who cares to read this, here are my (lengthy) thoughts now that I’ve had a chance to sleep on it.   I’ll start by saying I'm not sure I've ever been more hyped for an episode

I loved the fact that Theon won his fight cause he has no dick. Haha

I don't believe it's as black and white as some people think. The Others represent ice and the Fire god is self explanatory. There will obviously be a penultimate confrontation between the two ideologies however they do not represent Light and Dark in my opinion. Both come across as evil. Also, It's not clear whether Daenerys and her dragons are in league with the Fire god or not. I tend to believe the final confrontation will be between her and the Others.

Back to the Red Wedding for a second. I reread some of the 3rd book last night and then checked out the official wiki as well as some other materials. The idea that Tywin orchestrated the Red Wedding stems from two items. The first being that Bolton tells Rob right before he kills him that Jaime Lannister sends his regards (In the Tv Series, this was altered to "The Lannisters send their regards") and the fact that Bolton and Frey are rewarded by Tywin for quelling the rebellion. There is no other data that directly or indirectly leads to Twyin. After rereading that section of the book, I still hold to the idea that Martin intends for the reader to believe Frey betrays Rob with the consent of the Crown but that ultimately it was Frey's plan. As for Bolton, I had forgotten how large of a role he has in the book and it will be interesting to see if the Tv show expands on it. I was completely off the mark on his character earlier in thread. Anyway, I can see how fans would think Tywin was behind it and since Martin appears to have left it open to interpretation, there probably isn't a definitive answer one way or the other.

I've spent the last few minutes google imaging the characters mentioned.  As someone who hasn't read the books and loves the show, it has been hard keeping up with all the characters, so putting the actors faces to the names helps ;)

One question...the guy who sold out Jon Snow (I think) and is now being tortured on the X, I don't get that plot line.  Seems the last few episodes he has been in is just, how can we torture this guy.  Is this part of a bigger picture?

The dude being tortured is Theon Greyjoy. He supposedly has a large penis like me. He is being tortured for betraying Robb Stark, by Ramsay Bolton, the bastard son of Roose Bolton, the guy who betrays and kills Robb Stark at the Red Wedding

Technically they haven't said who is doing it yet in the show... but I kind of felt like it was obvious.  Still... belated spoiler alert for CMJ's post and my own below.

It's better explained in the books and they may explain it more in the show, but essentially he is being mentally broken and the Boltons will try to use that to their advantage.  It shows the Bolton's nature but also serves a plot line.  Theon still has blood right and is a known figure.  If they can control him...

I think Tywin talks about it later w/ Tyrion iirc and Tyrion reams him for doing it.

I remember that. It focuses more on that fact that Tywin was involved in some capacity. I don't think anyone disputes that. Like I said earlier, Martin leaves it open for a reason. I don't think we'll ever know for certain.

I think you are correct in that it will take fire breathing dragons to wipe out the others.  Arya is one of my favorites, but she seems lost from it all.  If he finishes the series, I will read the books, but it's hard to figure out because serious characters get wiped out.

I can't go into it, but a coming character "Reek" is amusing.  The tv series can't develop them all, so Reek may not get a big part.

Well that will make Father's Day akward...

I think Arya will have a big role before it is all said and done. Certainly the books have changed her from how far she has progressed on TV. But I still can't really figure out what role she would play in the end.
