Books haven't explained that connection between night king and the children.

HBO bought the writes to finish the books, since Martin wouldn't get off his ass and finish the damn story.

Well for anyone who cares to read this, here are my (lengthy) thoughts now that I’ve had a chance to sleep on it.   I’ll start by saying I'm not sure I've ever been more hyped for an episode

I loved the fact that Theon won his fight cause he has no dick. Haha

The Fire and Blood book that was released recently is pretty good if you are jonesing for some Westeros.  It's 700+ pages written in the style of a "history" from a maester.  But I really liked the story of King Jaehaerys I as a long-ruling monarch with major successes with many family problems (mostly daughters).  The "Dance of the Dragons" history that was originally part of a compilation of short stories is in here, too (in the midst of rereading it now).

There are fun tid-bits of lore sprinkled throughout.  Some contradict the show (like that dragons cannot [will not?] fly over the Wall).  Danny's 3 eggs are suggested to be from 3 stolen eggs from about 250 years prior.

I think it only really appeals to serious fans of the series as it’s basically just a history book of a fictional world. But I enjoyed it as I’m one of those nerds.

The creepiest part part was the death of Aerea.

You also had the stolen dragon eggs that perhaps later ended up in Daenerys’ hands.

And yes, I liked that Jaehaerys was a great king but not such a great father.

I saw that. Sansa doesn’t look very happy...

Between what the Mad King did to her grandfather and uncle and wanted to do to her father, and what she believes happened with Rhaegar and Lyanna, she's got issues that need to be worked through before she gets any warm and fuzzies toward her.

Don’t worry, Bran will clear everything up and... er... ok, maybe that isn’t going to help...

On the Targaryen scale, that’s pretty much nothing.

Yeah, but on the north/Stark scale that's pretty much fucking your aunt. It'd be like Robb having a go at Lysa Arryn. I don't know if too many of his bannermen would've hailed him King In The North after that. They didn't even like it when he went for a foreigner (i know it was because he broke his vow to the Freys).

Technically we only know that the followers of the 7 (almost everyone except the North) are very against incest. That was a big deal in Fire and Blood book 1 with the early Targarien kings.

We don’t really know if that holds true for the followers of the old gods. So maybe people in the North wouldn’t care so much. That could factor in. Starks usually intermarry with the other Northern houses so there must be some degree of marriage between at least cousins going on.

Hell, Tywin married his 1st cousin. That’s not much different than marrying an aunt (of the same age). So even throughout Westeros taboos of incest might be limited to siblings.

Hmm... good points.

No spoilers there and not much info about the season particulars, except to say that each episode is rumored to be roughly 90 minutes each.

“It’s a spectacle. The guys have done six movies. The reaction I had while watching them was, ‘I’m watching a movie,’“ Plepler told Variety. Of showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, Plepler enthused: “They knew the bar was high. They’ve exceeded the bar. I’ve watched them twice without any CGI and I’m in awe. Everybody’s in for an extraordinary treat of storytelling and of magical, magical production.”

HBO unveiled the first footage of the season on Sunday. Although the final season is shorter than previous ones, the new episodes are rumored to be about 90 minutes long each — the length of feature films.
