There is no other reason to draft him this high. So, our WR coach must think he sees upside. But this guy's floor is really really low. His ceiling IS decent, but he's the definition of boom/bust pick, and his boom still seems like it's Kalif Raymond. I just don't get it. But I'd LOVE to be wrong, of course. I guess it's possible that he's gotten faster in 2 years. But this very first play shows the baffling difference between his timed speed and game speed. The defender didn't even take a good angle on him, and tracked him down 25 yards short of the endzone on what should have been an easy TD. Some guy from the Illinois State athletic program, at that. We may have to keep an eye on tolbert. I get he has a nice track record with wrs but this is the 2nd time he has seemingly hand picked a guy after meeting them at the senior bowl. Last time it was a total waste. titanruss

Maybe he just needs better coaching/training/other. Maybe it's as simple as reducing/adding stuff to his diet. Who tf knows? He's got stuff to work with, but it needs more refinement... which is obviously why he went in the 4th round instead of 1, 2, or 3. More projection is needed for him than a guy like Matthew Golden. People need to chill with the hand wringing over this pick. Nobody knows what Dike is going to look like after he gets into the Titans facility and starts to build himself into a pro. It may only ever be incrementally better or it could be a lot better. We'll see. Justafan

Dont you know speed is directly proportional to how highly ranked your school is on average? Like how chris johnson was slow his first 3 years at east carolina but the last year when they won 7 national championships and finished the year ranked "god must tremble" he ran a 4.24 NashvilleNinja, and IsntLifeFunny 1

We live in an age where anything that you want to know is a few clicks away. Despite the local reputation that Illinois State has for harboring world class athletes, Franky West Jr. (#7 on the Illinois State defense) ran a 4.58 at the Eastern Kentucky pro day, where he transferred and finished his collegiate career. As was correctly inferred by me, he's an ordinary athlete by FCS standards- below average size and speed. titanruss

Maybe Dike ate a Supersonic breakfast burrito that morning? Maybe Dike was kidnapped by aliens hired by Eastern Kentucky and replaced by a clone? Mysteries abound. But I'd LOVE to be wrong, of course. they pretty obviously did not go best player available even though they said they did. Femi was not the best pass rusher. Dike was not the best WR. They freaked out and went edge too early.. then the S was still on the board and likely rated too high on the total board to pass up on .... and then they freaked out and went speed WR because all the dudes they targeted were gone. Pretty sure we heard they wanted to trade back but didn't get any takers. still, even grabbing a speed WR, I'm not sure why you'd grab him over some other available options. Like I said a few days back though, if they had gone Ayomanor first then Dike- we probably wouldn't be bitching about it. IsntLifeFunny

By all reports they knew they were drafting Ward months ago...so basically they were scouting from the second round on. They brought Femi in for a visit. That isn't freaking out. They even traded back to land him. They obviously had a plan. Dike was the very first pick on the 3rd day. There is simply no way they "freaked out" lol that is unless you already have lost full faith in the FO seeing as it is their first draft... If not this is a shit ton of jumping to conclusions. You have no idea where they ranked anyone. NashvilleNinja, and IsntLifeFunny

I find it pretty hilarious you just assume it all fell exactly how the wanted. btw, I also assume they got probably 5 steals... So it's OK to critique the selection of 2 very unproven guys that were ranked universally low by stat nerds, workout nerds, ex coaches and gms. especially when anyone can pop on the tape and see questionable play compared to lots of dudes still on the board. Many rumors they wanted to trade out of 4 and couldn't. They reached trying to find high character guys to rebuild a franchise foundation.
