Nowhere close to the talent level of those two track and field guys. The context here is that the Mavs were the worse team in the NBA from 91-94. They basically drafted Jackson (missed out on Shaq, Mourning etc) and Webber /Hardaway the next year and had to settle for Mashburn. Anyway , they traded all 3 guys in rapid fashion afterwards and became a joke until they drafted Nowitzki. I meant in terms of both events happening around the same time. I seem to remember there being comparisons being made between Dan/Dave and Kidd/Jackson.

It’s hard to argue against this when the previous commish has said his ideal finals matchup would be Lakers vs Lakers. Also said team has been the beneficiary of other awful trades in the past. This just smells fishy , maybe not “encouraged” by the league but they could have gotten way more. titanruss

He’s just the public face at this point. I don’t think there is any chance in hell he would have ok’d this move. Cuban is just a minority owner now. No way in hell would he have let this happen if he still had any say. rns90, and IsntLifeFunny

OILERMAN
Moneyball Memes Billy, this is Luka Doncic. He is a top 5 player in the NBA and can be an all time great. His defect is that he gets a little chunky sometimes. This guy should cost us our entire roster and 10 firsts, but we can get him for just Anthony Davis. https://x.com/MoneyballMemes/status/1886089829814837260 IsntLifeFunny, and heyitsmeallen

They are saying things like the Mavs are out on his attitude, conditioning, and defense. Those things were all good enough to get you to a Finals as long ago as...last season. They are right in the mix in the Western conference, in the same seed range they made the Finals in last season IIRC. I certainly think the Anthony Davis and Kyrie fit is interesting and good do some damage in the playoffs--I place the Mavs as a solid second tier team behind OKC, Denver, and possibly Memphis (so deep) in the West. LA though gets one of the biggest stars in the NBA before his prime even hits. That team will also be in incredible position cap wise--when LeBron retires Luka will be able to build his own team at will, recruiting at least two elite players. Also, if his conditioning and attitude is a problem---you but him next to the greatest athlete conditioning wise--possibly in any sport ever. What a win for the Lakers. I just can't make sense of it. It really is the most insane trade ever conceived and as you noted right there at the end it works absolutely beautifully for the motherfucking Lakers of all teams lol. I have absolutely no idea what the hell they were thinking. Nico Harrison legit may need protection.

Supposedly he was due for $350 million and they didn't trust that he'd be able to fulfill it because of his conditioning. There's also so many issues with these weird salary cap rules in the NBA that other sports don't have, like the apron rule that most people including me have no idea what it even means, that they were kind of hamstrung. I'm not defending the deal, I wouldn't have done it, I'm just saying that it's not as simple as just giving him up for a bunch of draft picks. It got so complicated that they had to get the Jazz involved. I've watched enough of him to know Dallas really fucked up regardless of their motivation. If you want to trade him because you don't think he's locked in and definitely won't be after the contract then fine I guess, trade him. Don't do it to the Lakers for an aging center who misses more games than Luka. Regardless of his terrible defense, which it is astronomical levels of terrible when he's nursing an injury, like unwatchable bad, this is the most lopsided trade in sports history. It isn't close. He's a top 3 player in the NBA at 26 years old. Putting him next to LeBron for a couple of seasons is going to be nuts to watch the transition in his conditioning. He idolizes the guy, and the fact is LeBron is right there with Henry as truly genetic freaks with the most insane work ethic in human history types. IsntLifeFunny
Bottom line, some team would have traded significantly more assets for a rebuild than what they received. If they didn't trust Luka they should have blown it up. There's simply no way Luka isn't worth at the absolute bare minimum 3 first round picks, 3 pick swaps, and players, like legitimate second tier guys like say Austin Reaves and Knecht? Not coming out with at least Knecht or Reaves should be a punishable crime. This trade is legit insane. They're not a contender with that roster. Their spacing is completely fucked. Kyrie is a combo guard, not a true point. I went and read up a bit, they were the second best defense in the league last year after the trade deadline...which shows you can have a good defense with Luka! They fucked off and didn't re-sign one of their core defensive guys and apparently and it's hurt them...just trade for one of those guys! Mind boggling. They didn’t want to pay the super max contract that Luka was due to sign, and trading the face of the franchise (And top 5 overall NBA player) will cripple local support giving them a better shot at relocating. I haven’t seen a single Mavs fan who has said they will still root for the team. Tons of people saying they won’t ever step foot in the arena again, and will cancel season tickets. The new owners are Casino owners and they want Texas to legalize gambling so they can build a super complex that includes hotels and casinos all around a new stadium. If they can’t get Texas to legalize gambling, they want to move the team to Vegas and build there. Yep. They're literally refunding season tickets. They know. heyitsmeallen

A guy averaging the most PPG since Wilt and Jordan who is just hitting his physical prime? It's genuinely insane. heyitsmeallen
