Tbh this isnt as big of a deal as people are making it out to be. Even if he challenged the ncaa and goes back to school the bengals still would own his rights if he came out again next year.

Would he count as a 2nd year player with 1 less contract controlled year or as an actual rookie? Idk, but the CBA says he would still be a bengal till they trade him. He would have to go full eli or elway and refuse to play for them next year as well to get that trade otherwise he will be siting on his couch next to a contract while he makes no money.

No, if he doesn’t sign this year and goes back into the draft then he will be someone else’s rookie. The Bengals won’t even be allowed to draft him again in 2026 in that scenario.

It's always a bad year to get a QB in free agency.....

So Ryan Stonehouse just signed with Miami… to play for ST coordinator Craig AUKERMAN that almost ended his career! Good luck Stoney! 😳

Unless he goes back to school then he stays a bengal.

He needs to apply for a special waiver to play in college again, otherwise he'd need to sue the ncaa to play.

if he's allowed to play, then it starts becoming a competition between NCAA and the NFL for players... and a LOT of college teams have more money than most pro teams.

NCAA and NFL are going to have to negotiate together.

This trends towards my European soccer style set up I've been predicting. ... and Eventually the college teams will be connected to their colleges pretty much in name only.

Soccor franchises are connected to schools in some round about way?

He'd definitely try to go back to school. He doesn't get paid otherwise. NIL is what gives guys the leverage.

He would need to sue and go through a long, drown out legal process to be eligible. The college season may run out before that gets done.

...which is why he's almost certainly bluffing. It's highly unlikely he's willing to miss a year of earning potential.

He’s probably bluffing, but just sitting out for a year would put him back in the draft next year. Trying to go back to college seems unlikely.

I still think he will end up signing, after a camp holdout, but it’s good drama.

Sure...minus millions in lost income...and a likely lower draft position and resulting lesser contract than what he would get this year.

I feel sorry for Burrow and Chase playing for that franchise. The talent they've had come through there over the last 25 years they should have won at least a Super Bowl or two. But whatever is wrong with them is systemic. Their trip to the Super Bowl in 21 might be the closest Burrow ever gets with them.

That being said, Burrow had been there long enough when he signed his extension to know what he was getting himself into.

He can fake retire like Palmer to go elsewhere!
