You act like capitalism, the military, and energy production has magically shrunk under Democratic presidents. And your “small government”, “pro-business” bullshit since 1980 has led to economic failure, abusive monopolies, record wealth inequality, and massive inflation. I think the more appropriate title for this thread would be “What are Republicans doing to future generations?” I never said anything “magically shrunk.” Are you arguing that Democrats run on capitalism, growing our military strength and expanding energy production in the US? I'm sure you can find democrats that do, but in general you’re going to say these are core tenants of the Democratic Party? Cmon now. I’m not so far to either side that I don’t see the benefits of checks and balances on our system. I do believe in strong unions, which is something republicans would never support. I support taxing billionaires full hilt, as much as possible. Small businesses are the heartbeat of the country because they prove the American dream is alive. Many Democrats believe business owners are evil, greedy capitalists. In my experience working with small business owners, they are incredibly leveraged in debt and some are doing really well and others are not doing well. Another thing I disagree with on Republicans is the Covid recovery plan under Trump. It gave a few thousand to individuals but gave free labor to business owners. As one accountant I talked to told me, the government is holding an open bag of money for business owners. So I would have agreed with greater oversight on that. In general, I think Republican values are more in alignment with my personal values. But I’m in no way burdened with having to defend all Republican policies because I’m not a Republican. F those guys, just like I say F democrats. I support candidates, both locally and nationally, that I think align with my own interests and what I think will be of the interest in the nation long term. And many Republican philosophies align with what I think is best for the country long term.

Democrats universally support small businesses. No one is calling them evil or greedy. The ones they would tend to call evil or greedy is big corporations. Where the hell would you get the idea that Democrats were critical of small business owners??? 9 hours ago, Tnasty said: In general, I think Republican values are more in alignment with my personal values. I have no idea what Republican values you support, whether it’s tax cuts for the wealthy or fewer regulations to protect the public or taking away the right for women to make their own medical decisions or protecting corporate interests. That’s up to you. Regardless, the country has clearly benefitted more, both economically and socially, from Democratic governance than from Republican governance over the last century. I will point out the US is producing more oil than any nation in the history of the world under Biden.

Which values are those? Pill popping philandering Rush Limbaugh? Drunk driving underage trafficking Matt Gaetz? Serial abortion-for-mistresses funder Donald Trump? Justafan
Yes, because there has been no drug abuse, promiscuous activity, or unsavory activity from characters on the left. These attacks are unfair and only serve to divide. He spoke about Republican values - which are essentially Christian values - which is shared by many people around the world of all cultures and ethnicities. No need to try and paint people as racists for espousing their principles.

I always have an issue with right-wing ideas being called "christian values" I was raised as Catholic, attending mass every week. The main values I was taught were to be kind to others no matter who they are, to share and not be greedy, and forgiveness 21st century right wing politics are the opposite to that. They preach hate towards those of different races/sexual preferences etc, they want the wealthiest to get wealthier and not share that wealth, and they believe in stuff like the death penalty I get it's a phrase, but I feel like Christian Values align more to the left than the right, particularly on social issues. At least with how I was raised

Of course, there are people that hated Obama because he was black and hated Carter for whatever reasons you want to come up with.... that doesn't do a damn thing to disprove my point, though. Plenty of good men on the right have been despised by the left as well.

That's kind of my point That's all well and good but the catholic church itself is pretty conservative and most of Christianity has embraced the right. Just because you interpret it in a specific way, doesn't mean the left's moral structure aligns with Christianity. In fact, in many instances the left's moral structure is in direct opposition to the Christian right. Your POV is a very post-modern nihilistic pov and one that conservatives (and Christians) would likely disagree with. Not to knock your beliefs... I have nothing against forgiveness and treating people well, I just think it's more a mischaracterization of people on the right who also believe in those things rather than a coherent argument about beliefs and alignment by political party. pat
@IrishTitansFan is right, there’s nothing Christ-like about “conservative” values. The Catholic Church took a hard right turn to cover up their enormous sexual abuse scandal, but again, that’s kind of the point. The churches aren’t particularly Christian. Do unto others was a big part of the teaching. Now you go and it’s a bunch of conservative nonsense. So people stopped going. @Justafan these are two Catholics posting here, the nihilism is the coming from the pulpit.
