I'm meh but you are fooling yourself if you don't think he's going to bring in mostly guys he knows and has worked with before. I'll reserve judgement on the staff for a later date. The Raiders had good offenses from 2012-2021? 26th, 24th, 31st, 17th, 7th, 23rd, 28th, 24th, 10th, 18th....and I'll remind you he was a low level assistant the entire time. The one college OC season was for a 5-7 team that was 76th out of 131 in scoring. At Jax for 1 year - but how much did he have to do with it as the Passing Coordinator where you had Pederson, McCoy, and Press Taylor (Zac's brother) in the pecking order ahead of him. Personally, I think it's an underwhelming candidate.

Granted non-play caller OC but that's concerning.... https://www.jaguars.com/team/coaches-roster/nick-holz https://cubuffs.com/sports/football/roster/nick-holz/2715 Callahan was the backup QB on the 2000/2001 teams..... Crian Cally? For fuck’s sake lol that didn’t take long
smokeater
The Holz interview is meathead like and not a good look. BC is the defacto OC anyway and it’s just an interview. He better search far and wide for a DC and OL coach though and not play six degrees of Brian Callahan.
Thumbtack
Because the best way to have a collaborative organization is to hire outside guys without any past connections Cally flat out said his staff will have some younger coaches which he had relationships with. AvgJoe
Much more worried about OL coach and DC than I am OC with Callahan calling plays

Sure but this guy sure doesn't scream OC candidate based on his resume. Nice he went to HS with him and his dad gave him his first job though

I'd hope they'd talk to some of the other OC candidates that are schematic fits out there aside from his HS pal....Maybe an up and coming position coach. The big concern I have with this guy is that he's not been mentioned for any of the many OC openings aside from this one with the very obvious Callahan/Taylor links. IowaOiler
Bringing in guys you've worked with and have connections with makes sense....bring in good-ole-boys does not. This appears to be a good-ole-boy.

I'd be much more worried about him hiring buddies for DC and OL , then a coordinator position in title only.

Be careful...don't be bashing non-play calling OC's around here! But agree that the impact for DC and the other positions are critical whereas he can cover for a weaker OC candidate at least theoretically.
Nash
Just thinking about it, I’d bet Callie wants to mentor some young coach for 4-5 years, just as he was mentored. Put him in his system, let him learn to gather data, handle offensive meetings and schedules, interpret findings, work his way up, so by year 2 or so he is an effective team member
oldschool
Part of the allure of going with Callahan is that he's supposed to be able to assemble a competent staff. Hopefully he delivers.
