This is the part that drives me up a wall.   Republicans want to deflect attention away from the ridiculously lax gun laws and blame it on mental health issues.....okay, fine.

“We’ve tried nothing and we’re all out of ideas!”

Haha damn. This is exactly right. The fucks went so far as to block data so there couldn't be a congressional study and hearing done on the topic.

Nope.

The Covenant School shooting in Nashville a few months ago perfectly captured the Republicans’ unwillingness to take any measures whatsoever to curtail gun violence and mass shootings.

Within days of that shooting, the Tennessee state legislature quickly passed a resolution barring the introduction of any legislation related to gun laws…. followed by the suspension and quick expulsion of those who demanded the issue be brought to the floor.

That’s the Republican policy in a nutshell:   if they ignore the issue hard enough, the problem will simply go away.

That’s not true. They cracked down on trans people after Covenant. Problem solved…

100%.  The repubs had hearings about 'crime' in DC , NYC -- theatrical, with no intent to help anyone other than Trump by vilifying the cities or their local DAs.  Yet quashed any attempts for a single hearing on gun violence in schools -- scores of real death and terror -- despite the majority of the people's will for at least debate on the topic.  This will be another stain in the history books.

All the recent conversations I've had lately with a coworker always devolves into blaming a trans person as the issue behind mass shootings. "It's always a trans person!"

Yeah what about the other 1000s of shootings. Crickets.

If Sandy Hook didn't move the needle on gun control, nothing will.

Oddly enough, I think it did move the needle on public sentiment and discontentment with Congress, that's why it's referred to often.

Also, let's not forget that Biden and dems did advance red flag laws -- as meager as it is, it's the first legislation on gun safety in THIRTY YEARS (coincidently overlapping the timing of the rise of right wing media)

Or remove the liability restrictions on manufacturers.

The reality is that gun manufacturers are not shielded from liability.  Rather they are protected from frivolous lawsuits over the criminal use of guns that are legally made and sold.   That should not change.

I disagree.  The cost of innocent lives from the lethality unleashed into our society from high muzzle velocity, military grade weaponry is too high.  I fall on the side of the argument of protecting people over profits of gun manufacturers. A bunch of innocent dead people every 6 mo - 1 yr is a feature of your worldview, not a bug and should be protected!  That's pathetic.
