How bad is the pass blocking... really?

I get your feeling but this feels like revisionist history. I don't remember many people here wanting Darrishaw let alone pounding the table for him. Most were still too disgusted from the Isaiah Wilson fiasco to even stomach taking a guard. No one even brought him in the yearly "be the GM thread" that gets posted every year before the draft. Most were all in on Elijah Moore IIRC

I think that's only because Darrisaw was never supposed to fall near our pick. And the Vikings knew it as they had draft night clips of them erupting into cheer as we selected Farley. It was clearly an example of JRob constantly thinking he was the smartest man in the room. Was far too cunning in his own mind to have to stoop as low as paying his talent. Everyone was immediately replaceable. Medical red flags didn't shake him because he hit on the Simmons pick.

I hear your point though, as per our pre-draft intel we were expecting / content with some permutation of Moore, Newsome, Phillips, Paye

Can someone explain beyond the hype and cherry -picked (and also overhyped) plays how Skoronski isn't a big disappointment right now?  If he wasn't drafted #11 overall, he'd just be another guy on an offensive line which needs a ton of work.

Sko has been good. He's starting and playing at an above average level as a rookie.

What you don't do (and another example of why organizations don't listen to the panicked and non-foresight of fans) is screw with his development and comfort level for what probably won't be a quick fix-- and in turn now you have TWO problems. It's very possible that this year Sko gets acclimated to the speed of the game with help on either side before they move him to LT next year.

You guys have to have patience. This is a rebuilding team.

Yeah, J-Rob was most definitely on tilt after nailing the Simmons pick. No risk was too great for him. Fuck was he thinking taking a CB with multiple back issues and a blown out knee.

Explain how playing guard for a couple of months will make him forget how to play a position he's been playing since he was probably like 13 years old? This will have 0 negative effect on his development.

lets be honest here. putting him at OG hampers his development more than trying him at LT. If they really thought Skoronski could play LT they could have easily justified moving Dillard to LG.

Shorter space to cover, help on either side. This is absolutely not the first time teams put their future franchise LT at a different position prior to giving him the keys the next year, if that's what they decide to do with Sko.

Worst case is that he's an All Pro offensive guard.

That goes to level of competition, not the way the position is played. Your stance makes no sense. No we don't know that he could play LT well against NFL competition but if he doesn't it won't because he forgot how to play LT or his "development" got messed up. If anything his development as an LT is being affected right now in that sense that he isn't being allowed to develop at all.

Right. I don't think playing at OG is directly hurting Sko but indirectly, he is losing out on very valuable reps at what should be his position.

My whole point is that they may be taking the longterm investment approach. The speed of the game absolutely matters. No need in having him get his ass whooped in his rookie season when we can be smart and patient with his development.

By next year he will know all line calls, will be familiar with audibles, and will even be familiar with stunts presented. I think we need to exhibit patience. This is not a new strategy for bringing along a new LT

This is antiquated thinking IMO. As others have noted when teams have historically played highly drafted tackles at guard it was because they had better tackle play from veterans at the time. No team that I am aware of had tackles as bad as Dillard and still played their 1st round tackle at guard. Sko can learn the calls, audibles, stunts and whatever else at tackle while getting some real experience at tackle. Getting "his ass whooped" is a valuable experience because eventually, no matter how good you are, you're probably gonna get your ass whooped at some points of your career. What we're watching is not some carefully calculated "strategy". It's mismanagement.

I do wish they already had a premier LT on the roster, but since it appears Sko is the LG of the future, I really hope we draft and hit on a LT in the 2024 draft.

If they do get a legit LT paired with Sko (and maybe find a role for Radunz, re-think C with Levin), we'd have a bright future. I actually hope we go all in on offense in the draft. I have no faith in Vrabel in developing defensive talent or building a legit D, so I'd prefer to build the best damn offense possible. Get another WR2 so you have Hopkins/#2/Burks then Phillips/NWI/Moore battling out the back end. Get another dynamic TE.

Give Levis everything possible to maximize his talent.
