Kickers aren't even real people.

The team made a point this week to state that they're focusing on accuracy from 40-49 yards out and not 50 plus yards out.  Why?

Because Fat Randy was only 14/21 in that range over the past two years and they hardly even bothered trying deeper. When you're sub-standard, getting to standard is a reasonable goal. Just get it to where kicking isn't an active weakness.

But I've seen nothing from ST, basically across them board, that suggests Craig is anything but Vrabel's buddy. I wouldn't look for good insight there.

None of this has to do with the special teams coordinator.  It has to do with the fact that they seem to be not placing what I feel is the proper value on the position.  Instead of taking some backup offensive lineman in the 6th round who will likely never play a meaningful down as a starter, at least if the Titans can help it, take one of these bigtime college kickers like other teams are doing.  It just makes no sense to me.

It's bothered me for awhile. Pretty much since Auckerman took over. I swear he must have dirt on AAS.

Teams that have good kickers win the close games.

There are some things that are exceptional about the Titans.  That focus on conditioning - we've seen the Titans outlast other teams on the field.

And then there's some things that are less exceptional.  Special teams is "special" for the Titans.  When everything goes right it doesn't really matter.  But in close games it's a weakness.

I'm with @scine09 on this one.

Both Shudak and Wolff have big legs so this idea that the Titans don't value kickers with long range is largely based on an out of context quote from Ackerman, who simply noted they valued kicker accuracy under 50 with kicks over 50 as gravy....., which is logical for every NFL team in the league.  I'd add that this whole "take a kicker in the 6th round" deal doesn't fly since the two college guys that were coveted went in rounds 3 and 4 this year, including the one the Titans spent a lot of time with.

Traded to Detroit

Obviously nothing you can do about that as they weren’t trading him to the Titans.
