Winning in the post season.

This is what it comes down to. Jrob and Vrabel have done a great job building a perennial regular season winner. Now they need to take the next step and show some more consistency in the playoffs as the ultimate goal is a championship.

If the Titans were widely considered to be pretenders last year, of course they're not going to get credit after giving away one of the best young receivers in the NFL and replacing him with a rookie .... especially when their only other wide receiver was even remotely worth starting is a guy coming off on ACL.

If Tannehill was widely considered to be playing above himself for 2 years, nothing about the 2021 season, especially the end, is going to change that. If anything, they only believe it to be more true now.

None of this should surprise you. The only question is how much to value or weight the opinions of others. I'd argue that depends what they're critiquing and how they support that critique ... that, like anything, you should assess each opinion dispassionately and that you'll find some worthy of dismissal and others worthy of consideration even if they generally argue the same conclusion. Not that most members of this form have shown any ability to perceive things or express them with an iota of nuance, but that would be my suggestion.

What's concerning is few teams get this many chances and perfect scenarios (like last season) in this condensed a timeframe. The Titans are already among the most regular playoff teams in the NFL recently. If they haven't figured it out by now....

Meh.  I think that Vrabel made chicken salad out of chicken shit, honestly.

I won't claim to know the roster as well as you, but from an outsiders view, the Titans overachieved and then were exposed in the playoffs.

Great coaching will typically get you into the playoffs and even win divisions.  However, to win the Super Bowl you need great players.

They weren’t exposed in the playoffs. The defense dominated and tied a league record for sacks. They lost because Tannehill choked and they fed Henry. It’s basically the opposite of what you’re saying.

Basically Jrob is a good GM that needs to hit more often in the 1st round. As @ctm as said many times, rebuilding a team is much easier than keeping one in contention so now its time for Jrob to earn his top 5 classification posters like @tgo push for.

JROB said they need to figure out how to go from good to great 3 or 4 years ago

I’ll add ctm to the list with Jamal and Iowa.

Seriously? So you would be happy if the Titans never get over the 1st round playoff hump over the next 5-6 years as long as they win 10-11 games a year and contend for the AFC south?

He rebuilt the team 5-6 years ago and has kept the team in contention. You have to have an elite QB in the playoffs or things to break your way like in 2019.

you have to have good QB play over a 4 game stretch, not elite. Stafford was a playoff failure until this year. Jimmy G made the Superbowl a few years back and almost did it again this year. Saying the Titans ceiling is praying for a break because they only have a top 10 QB is loser talk.

I'll also add the Titans biggest barrier to advancing in playoffs in general and competing for a superbowl isn't Tannehill; last year notwithstanding. Its the conservative offense that calls for force feeding Henry on 1st down and playing not to lose that does them in.

I imagine ctm and I are closer, far closer, than Iowa and I ... but I imagine he'd still be reticent to embrace a comparison that equates our opinions.

It broke right for those teams…

Most of the media felt like the Titans over achieved all year.  None believed in the Titans and most said they would lose in the playoffs.  Some even guaranteed they would lose in the first round of the playoffs.  They were called pretenders despite having the #1 seed in the AFC.

Given that was the perception last year, it would be hard for the pundits to take the Titans as a serious threat given they traded away AJ Brown.

Tannehill has been viewed skeptically in 19 and 20, and in 21, he proved the critics to be correct.  Or, at least in their mind he did.  Confirmation bias and all that.

In 2022, I don't care if Tannehill is pissed off.  I more care if the Titans have enough talent around him.  He has to have a good running game to play action off of and he needs big targets that will win 50/50 balls.

Now, Henry did not look great in the Bengals game.  Will he be healthy this year, or will he go the way of most RB's in their second contract?  He has been the most used running back in the NFL for the last four years.  Does that take a toll on Superman?

Robert Woods is coming off an ACL in last season.  IF he is ready to go week 1, that is 10 months.  The average recovery is 10.9 months for a WR.  Woods is trying to go in mini camp.  I wonder if he will be able to.  I wonder if he will be a full participant even in training camp.  While his prognosis is good, this is still a big unknown.  Even if he is healthy for week 1, will he have any chemistry with Tannehill.

Burks is a rookie.  That's also an unknown.

The offensive line is not any worse, but does it get dramatically better.

And, the TE room is rebuilt.  But, did they add any high level free agents that would give the media a reason to think the position has greatly improved?  Hooper is a mid level guy.

In the end, it doesn't matter what anyone thinks, it only matters who has more points at the end of every game.  However, it is easy to see why the media is skeptical of the Titans in 2022.

You really could've just stopped after the Tannehill paragraph. The rest could be completely true and if we had a different QB the media would think better of us... regardless if their beliefs are accurate or not.
