@Titans279 you asked last week, here is the clip. Its obviously light on actual policy but the point is solid.

I mean, he's right. Academy jargon seeping into the party ether is a huge liability for a party that already thinks elections are won off policy powerpoint bullets...

Exactly - it’s shitty politics to not do it. Esp for Congress ahead of the midterms.

If this doesn't move Democrats (along with some Dem governors pushing for this), Democrats deserve to lose both houses of Congress for the next few cycles. I don't give a shit about the fine print of the policy. Suspend the tax then point the finger at the gas companies.

I think the argument that the federal gas tax is almost nothing and the real problem is lack of domestic supply is going to beat out your argument.

The domestic supply has little if anything to do with this. Who cares about losing some revenue in the short term if Congressional party leadership looks like they don't care about throwing the farm at this?

We're basically handing the GOP the working class for the next 8 to 12 years for fucks sake.

Thats simply not true. The domestic supply is not why gas prices are high.

I don't think it matter what's true.

You (and everyone else here) already said that you realize that it doesn't matter what is true when you said repealing the gas tax was just for good optics.

I think that this argument will beat the other one because it will feel more true to people. Democrats are seen as hostile to fossil fuel extraction. It's pretty easy to just say that prices would be lower if we produced more stuff here locally and feels true.

I mean, Democrats themselves are even saying it.

You don’t use the defense production act to cut the price of gas by a few cents…

Ahh okay. you are saying thats the argument (lie) that will be used counter it, not that its true.

And clearly Biden agrees, since he's going to try to counter it.

Moving away from the political merits of this decision, I wonder if this will nullify the climate benefits of the infrastructure bill in the long term. Increasing domestic production is going to have effects for decades.
