And how is that not a win for Schumer?

If you just don't like Schumer, just say that. Don't try to twist what the scoreboard says.

By the way, I work alongside a K-street lobbyist. LOL.

My goodness are you dense? McConnell had no leverage and he still managed to extract a commitment from Sinema.

Now, how is that commitment even an impact when full abolishment of the filibuster wasn't ever really on the table? You're letting your bias against Schumer cloud the outcome.

Schumer repeatedly said last night that democrats aren't going to allow republicans to filibuster the Biden agenda.  I took that to mean that reform of the filibuster will happen if it becomes necessary.  If that is the plan, then Sinema's pledge on elimination is meaningless.

You believe that? Schumer has to placate the progressive base, why do you think he went on Maddow last night? I'll believe the Democrats have the guts to change/eliminate the Filibuster when it happens. For what its worth, my boy who works in congress said the GOP conference in private  isn't concerned about the dems actually killing the filibuster. That could change of course, but its telling they believe the Sinema, Machin, and Tester firewall is strong.

The fight is just starting.  We'll see at the time.  There will huge pressure if republicans try to filibuster voting rights, criminal justice reform  and/or DACA.

For fucks sake... nuking the filibuster wasn't even an option at this stage. STOP listening to a desperate McConnell who is on his heels and start listening to the majority leader.

agains where did I say the Dems should kill the filibuster this week? Clearly they have to try to go the bipartisan route on legislation first. It's only a question of when, not if this all comes to ahead. as @ctm stated will it be over DACA or VRA? how many bills does McConnell have to block before the dems entertain the filibuster question?  McConnell is making it know up front he's going to do whatever he can to obstruct the Senate whether he's the maj or min leader.

Thats what we are discussing here.

You were literally just discussing this as a win for McConnell like it was even a point to be scored in the first place.

It has to be overturned but it’s never gonna happen I feel. And for those that think “if the filibuster is overturned, it’s gonna suck when the GOP regains control,” if needed McConnell would have abolished it for his own party’s gain. He may be an obstructionist, but the guy will put his views aside to do something when needed.

Plus, McConnell will probably not be the leader of the senate GOP much longer (relatively speaking). The next GOP leader will prob be someone who actually wants to see a GOP senate pass some stuff - no matter how awful it is.

Schumer said last night that McConnell wouldn't be allowed to filibuster the Biden agenda.  He said they had learned their lesson from 2009.  He was gloating and rubbing it in on McConnell.

Schumer's statements put him out there on a limb.  He might as well resign as majority leader if he allows McConnell to filibuster.   I don't think he made this kind of serious political mistake.  I just think that with confirmations, impeachment and covid all pressing issues that the time isn't right for this fight just yet.

That's more of a reason to just modify it as a 50/50 arrangement and keep it long term.

Give a GOP Majority to Ted Cruz and Dems will scream about bringing it back in a heartbeat.

We'll find out at some point because the one thing we know for sure is that McConnell is going to obstruct the Senate's work.

They’re not going to remove the filibuster. They’re just going to jam everything they can into the two reconciliation bills they get this year.

This is the likely outcome. That means they will get at most 3 bills passed, Government funding notwithstanding,  before the 2022 midterms. Will that be enough for Democrat voters?

One other thing that I took from Schumer's comments when he said they learned their lesson from 2009:

What is implied, but not stated, is the lesson from the 2010 midterms.  Democrats got wiped out.  Their margins now are as close as it gets.  They could easily, easily lose one or both houses in 2022.  They have no choice but to deliver now.
