They simply didn't bring them to the floor because McConnell controlled the calendar. Schumer now controls what hits the floor. You want to take bets on whether McConnell filibusters voting rights, climate change, workers rights, ACA expansion, and Immigration? tgo

Not if there's limitations put on it. The 2 dems verbally stated they weren't in favor of filibuster elimination. They didn't say they were against filibuster reform... Chuck Schumer is from fucking Brooklyn. When he said "we're not going to let McConnell run the Senate" he meant it. Why else would McConnell attempt to even fight to preserve it if he knew it wouldn't get tampered? Edited January 26, 2021 by luvyablue256

You are all over the place. No one is saying Schumer should have removed the filibuster in response to McConnell's refusal to organize the Senate. All we are saying is that it shouldn't be taken off the table. We'll see what happens after McConnell filibusters bill after bill of Biden's agenda. Thats whant the real discussion on the filibuster will start. In addition, the idea of modifying the Filibuster instead of removing it may be a way out, only time will tell. As for Schumer, he is out of his depth and has been since he was elected Min leader. McConnell runs circles around him and he will continue to pressure Schumer as Min leader. Thats what the organization fight was all about. Letting Schumer know its going to be all out war on a daily basis. McConnell's goal is to retake his position as Maj leader in 2022 and make Biden a one term president. He cares about nothing else.

Give me some examples of McConnell "running circles" around Schumer that had nothing to do with the powers of being the majority leader, and the limitations on being the minority leader... You are aware of the limitations of only being the minority leader, right? McConnell literally caved last night. How is this not a win?

He can't lose a single democratic vote and pass a bill on his own. Pelosi is in a similar but not identical situation. She doesn't have many democratic votes she can lose. Now is not the time for on the job training in these two spots, imo. Too much on the line. oldschool

Schumer now has free reign over the committees, the calendar, AND modifying and weakening the filibuster. You have to watch the whole game and not just the ballcarrier... I dont like Schumer but I agree with this stance. 2022 should bring major changes in the House as Pelosi will be 82. I expect Schumer to stay in power until the Dems lose the senate again. I follow this stuff way closer than you do and actually know people who work on capital hill. You on the other hand just quote some leftist twitter feed in the palmer report that claims to be bipartisan but clearly isn't. McConnell may not have won any concessions from Schumer but he did extract a promise from one of the key democrats to not gut the filibuster and make no mistake, he will use that promise against the dems when the moment is right. Either way McConnell has leverage on Sinema now. Schumer repeatedly said last night that democrats aren't going to allow republicans to filibuster the Biden agenda. I took that to mean that reform of the filibuster will happen if it becomes necessary. If that is the plan, then Sinema's pledge on elimination is meaningless. luvyablue256
