If you are to feeble minded to see the connection including being DC I will let you eat me since Idiot Sandwiches are your diet staple. The point is stop blaming Vrabel. He’s taken a team without its top CB and down to the third LT and made it work. He’s doing an excellent job with the team. Robinson had a terrible offseason. It happens. He’s made up for it a good bit by signing Tannehill to a good deal and keeping Henry on board. He’s also done a great job of depth at tackle and finding 3 key contributors on defense with King, Borders and Tart.

And you ASSUME that Vrabel's influence was different than in the past offseasons that you jerked off to......... Bottom line is that there's ZERO evidence that Robinson's process changed one iota. You simply want to blame Vrabel for it since some of the moves didn't work out. Does Vrabel then get credit for Quisenberry? Does Keith Carter get credit for Sambraillo? Breon Borders was with the Texans in 2018 with Anthony Midgett...... You just assume that the process Robinson uses defers to coaches. Undoubtedly he consults with them but he's the guy who makes decisions, which are a combination of input from his staff - coaching, personnel, cap management....... This is by far JRob's worst off-season, but I don't think we should hold it against him. The moves he made may have largely failed, but they weren't the wrong moves to make. They weren't even bad moves. They weren't drafting a place kicker in the 2nd round bad. Even Belichick has had some happy accidents along the way and if there's any year to give even a shitty GM somewhat of a pass it'd be this one. Good GMs/teams have bad offseasons from time to time. We could well have a killer offseason this upcoming year.

Face
I’m going to disagree with most here & say this is pretty bad news. I assumed he was getting that temporary meniscus procedure that gets you back in 3 weeks & I think he would’ve been a real shot in the arm for the defense. As annoying as the guy is off the field, he still brings tremendous run defense every week & a good amount of pressures. Say what we will, he plays very hard. You can’t play the run like he does if you play soft. The other thing is, he’s capable of truly elite games, he usually has about 3 of them a year that maybe only 2-3 other players are capable of. Think the Niner game last year on Sunday night. One of those games in the playoffs could be the difference in winning or losing.

The good thing is that the Beasley and Clowney deals were short 1 year deals. Robinson swung for the fences and struck out but he didn't cripple the team beyond 2020. I'll give him a pass for going all in to fix an anemic pass rush. Agree with the above wholeheartedly, though I’d add that Beasley, along with Wilson, is a bit troubling. This is two guys who have shown as pathetic a backbone as any 2 players I can remember. Beasley was almost worse than Wilson, he put no effort in whatsoever & basically acknowledged it & didn’t give a shit. I think Kirby Smart held a lot of things back from the team but VB was an open book, everybody knew he had motivation issues. This can’t happen again. That said, I’d bring Clowney back next year. I know it sounds nuts but his price tag is probably maxing out at $11-$12. Despite no sacks, he did provide very good run D & had a lot of pressures. And despite what the fans say. he plays hard. Very hard. Run D is mostly effort, you can’t slack off & play the run like him. And he played hurt. He’s also probably our best bet at edge. We have too low of a pick & would really have to luck out to get an impact edge guy at the bottom of the 1sr rd. We don’t have the money to get a big ticket FA. A healthy Clowney on a one year deal, IMO, is the way to go.
Flarb
I created a thread about not being impressed with him many games ago and got ripped a new asshole. Now, (nearly) no one sees his being out as a huge loss. People say we play better without him. Why was I down on him? My eyeballs. This place, I dunno. Lots of intolerance regarding a dissenting opinion. I’m no fortune teller. I call it how I see it.
Johnson
Honestly is anybody surprised from this?? I mean all the early hype of us getting Clowney was great. I admit I got caught up in it too but as I think back collectively he carries baggage every season and you don't really know if he can play the next game after an injury report thru out his career so here we are stuck with a big name with no production ... This dudes entire career was made off 1 college play. He has never had over 10 sacks in any season and he only has 36 sacks for his career . Thats playing opposite JJ Watt. Copy that .... Mythos27
Clowney wasn't right all year (not saying he was hurt all year, just not at his best physically). I remember commenting to @tgo early on that Clowney looked smaller and was playing with less power than I'd ever seen him. I respect J-Rob for going for it and the money was fine. I'll never hold it against a GM for taking a shot on a what should be a difference-maker at a premium position. I just wish it would've worked out better. The fact that we're doing so well despite getting near 0 production from this past offseason is honestly mind-blowing and that's before you factor in all the injuries at key positions.
