They can, but we have several symptomatic players and who knows which is which. But Vrabel said repeatedly, point blank, that he does not expect any of them to be available for the Buffalo game.

They're going to of course be conservative in the face of discipline here.

He also said they won't go right into normal practices and that the team will need conditioning before resuming regular practice. Also mentioned that several coaches will not be available Sunday.

He’s also a player’s coach who is extremely careful with player’s health. It’s one of the reasons he has the locker room unified. There’s no way he risks the individual or the rest of the team.

Again not arguing the likelihood but there is a path for asymptomatic players who have 2 negative tests in a row. As for conditioning, give me a break. Practice is not overly taxing with the changes to the CBA the past few cycles. Missing a weeks worth of practice does not set conditioning back. If it did, teams would suck after a bye.

This is a much better argument.

I think holding them out might send a good message to the league that they're being extra cautious and taking is seriously.  Even if 2-3 guys are ready and per the league rules could technically play, keeping them out IMO sends the right message.

I don’t think Vrabel has any say whatsoever in whether the covid guys play. The only subjective part of the decision making process is players reporting their asymptomatic status. Players have to be honest about symptoms, which I assume they will because of the consequences of further outbreak. But they also have to know whether what they’re experiencing qualifies as a covid symptom, and that’s not always obvious.

Vrabel is a stickler on conditioning, I bet he devotes a practice period at least partially to conditioning work based on how he was talking. He said they're going to have to get really creative in order to effectively play this game due to all the limitations.

I think this is the biggest factor as well. With the league half-way up our ass, it might serve us well to play it safe while also putting forth the messaging that we are operating with an abundance of caution.

The more I think about it, the more I think the Titans are playing with fire letting any of these guys, players and coaches, anywhere near the building before 10-14 days have passed.

All of these positives were Saturday or before.  So even if Simmons doesn't come back until 14 days have passed, which would be next Friday, he could theoretically play as long as he's in the shape that he needs to be.  Blasingame may be the only one that would struggle to make it back for Houston in that scenario.  And this is assuming they're all asymptomatic.  If they're symptomatic I'd wait 10-14 after the symptoms have passed to have them back.

The Titans have to be so cautious, not only for image reasons but if one of their guys comes back too early and this happens again?  I don't even want to think about how that would play out.

I agree. I don't think they should play considering the outbreak but the point remains there is an avenue for playing if the team chooses to exercise it.

If they pass all LEAGUE mandated protocols on return to play, including physician sign off, why the hell wouldn’t you play them?  They didn’t make up the rules, if they’re followed and passed, zero reason to not play them.

Because clearly the "rules" and protocols aren't infallible and don't strictly adhere to the current medical standards. The existing NFL standards for returning to play are barely adequate and risking another outbreak just wouldn't be prudent. Yeah, we could technically do their bare minimum and hope for the best but given we've been branded the covid poster boys it would be short-sighted. I'd rather potentially lose a game (that we still have a decent chance to win) than wipe out the next few games or even the season.
