El Guapo
Yes it was. Someday if we ever meet I can tell you about it. My parents supported Castro. My father took care of their wounded in Santa Clara. He met and introduced my mom to Che. Then the executions started. My uncle, a civil servant who warned my parents Castro was a Communist was one of them. The confiscation of weapons, the control of the media, school curriculum, indoctrination camps for children, etc. We lived the nightmare. I could go on but you probably wont believe me. Batista was a bastard. Castro made him look like Mayor Pete.
OzTitan
The major problem I have with the link in the OP is - even if it doesn't outright say it the suggestion is obviously there - the alternative to this supposed extreme leftist future is not necessarily voting back in Trump. Biden is not a communist, Trump does not have a monopoly on the "American dream". This line of thinking is wrong and dangerous and obvious a tired play from the right wing playbook, and it needs to stop. Whoever occupies the WH from Jan 2021 is not progressing the American Communist's cause in any significant way and is unlikely to do much damage to it all the same - the USA is a free country and movements or belief systems gaining or losing favour don't really work like that. Hell, Trump could legitimately accidentally instill Communism or communist policies because he, a) very likely doesn't even understand what it means and b) is so easy to manipulate. I'm being a tad facetious but my point is he has no coherent path or agenda, and I see no logical or reasonable case for why him being in for 4 more years makes a iota of difference to the direction of the US on the leftist front. If anything, it may inspire more strength for a leftist movement. Want to avoid extreme leftist influence? stop voting in extremists on either side. There is a history of colonial violence in Cuba which Castro continued and worsened. There are many socialist countries. Do you think Canada is about to execute civil servants because they have nationalized health care?

You know Canada has just been patiently waiting all these decades after implementing universal healthcare to start executing citizens. Politely, though... Oilertattoo
Living in South Florida, I know many Cubans that feel this way and many that don't. One thing I find in common with the ones that do, they think Trump is a great President.

Hell, at least Bernie was willing to admit it. You guys have been calling Trump a nazi and a fascist but I guess that is what conservatives look like when your view is so out of whack. When defunding the police is considered mainstream Democratic policy, your delusions about what is left and right become obvious. But hey, there is always November and we will see what happens. Yeah that's why Biden cock-choked Bernie in the primaries. Because the Dems want marxism.

Maybe your fears created by your childhood are excessive and actually harmful? No one claims Nordic countries are horrible places to live yet they are far more “communist” than any American president has ever been.
Titans279
I am not a communist and don’t want to import Soviet or Cuban communism here. I just don’t think that if the government provides access to health care and education that we will descent into communism. Even Bernie is not actually a “revolutionary” in the way that you fear. He wanted a “political” revolution and when he failed to get what he wanted via the established democratic system in our country he decided to support the better of the establishment options He did not actually mount a revolution. You’re the victim of past trauma and even a bit of the Republican Party looking to exploit your fears of past trauma.

The right is too goddamned stupid to recognize that the pull of "socialism", democratic or otherwise, comes out of the failures of capitalism to work as it should. and if they would work harder to remedy the flaws, then less people would be interested in an alternative. Instead, the attitude is mostly "it's all fine, nothing to see here. A public option? That's VENEZUELA." As the wealth gap gets larger and larger. Crony capitalism, monopolies, singularly focusing on shareholder returns etc. etc. They'll continue to blame all of this on transsexual commies but it's really, literally Marx's predicted stages of capitalism coming to fruition. When you have a system built entirely on greed, which is what we have, this is the natural outcome.
