I'd like to hope that the Titans get a better return on the No. 2 overall pick than Alex Smith, never been impressed with him, but looking back the 2015 draft was rather underwhelming.  Unfortunately the nexus of Titan's QB need/high draft spot/available talent has never hit that sweet spot.

If Marcus could shed the injury concerns then I agree with oldschool and Smith should be the floor although I still think we're talking a modest Rego Park apartment building and not an LIC high-rise.

Ironically the NFL.com draft profile had Marcus' pro comparison as Kaepernick.

You’ve come a long way on Mariota...

That was a Mike Mayock comparison. A really bad one.

Like Code, MM is the QB.  I look forward to the day he uses his arm more than the run.  The guy has had lots of injuries and isn't a 240# guy.  For the long term success of both MM and the Titans, I look forward to this next step in his progression.  I fully expect this to happen by midseason.  If it doesn't happen and he keeps running and taking the hits, its just a matter of time before it turns out bad.

Discussed MM's injury w a Neurosurgery buddy of mine today at lunch (not Bongo).. we discussed the fact he has partly recovered is a good sign..the injuries that take a long recovery (a year) don't usually show any recovery for long periods..

Well, here's what we've learned in recent years. You don't have to be crazy elite or crazy consistent, but that helps. Being prime Tom Brady is going to get you in the conversation.

But you can be a Colin Kaepernick (alright, go back before the politics) and Joe Flacco and make a Super Bowl. Shell of himself Peyton Manning.

You can be a Nick Foles and beat Tom Brady for one if the rest of the team is good enough.

We have to keep focusing on our defense and building a creative system that will maximize our talent. Marcus could be Alex Smith, Jared Goff, etc. If the rest of the team is good and the coaching works we can potentially get to the playoffs and win one.

The thing is, Marcus has got to stay healthy. His growth and confidence depend on it.

couldn't have said it better.  this notion that everything falls on the QB is out of hand on this board.  Mariota just has to do his part...of course his part is pretty big but 9 pts can win you a game if your D comes to play...and I still think if he can stay healthy enough to settle in to this offense it's gonna get interesting later in the season and defiantly in the playoffs.

He played great yesterday...just not how people want him to win the games.  Some cant understand field position...not having 3 and outs when shits on the line...getting FGs.

I'm still 70 - 30 against him fulfilling any promise.  But that's better than my previous 100% against.

It's not that I don't like the guy or actively root against him.  There's just too much disappointment.  Games like yesterday cause me to hedge.  It was ballsy against a ferocious opponent.

I don't expect him to be Mac9 or Pastorini in the toughness stakes, but games like yesterday help my opinion of him.

I'm certainly not a big fan of his for two reasons. I think he needs more arm, and I worry about the constant injuries. That said, I was totally amazed at how he ran the team Sunday. His composure was perfect, execution really good and once he even stood in a collapsing pocket and hit a slant. I can't believe with all the injuries and no back up QB he was running the ball. It was like a stroll in the park. Did whatever he wanted to do. I don't see how we win that game without him.

The knock on smith is his arm strength. But he’s a more traditional QB regarding throwing motion and mechanics, pocket presence, reading the field, etc. Super smart. I’m not knocking MM here, but they’re totally different. MM has some of these qualities but needs to improve on others.
