currage
I know I’m getting into semantics, but here is the NFL’s rule on Horsecollar tackles: Quote No player shall grab the inside collar of the back or the side of the shoulder pads or jersey, or grab the jersey at the name plate or above, and pull the runner toward the ground. This does not apply to a runner who is in the tackle box or to a quarterback who is in the pocket. Note: It is not necessary for a player to pull the runner completely to the ground in order for the act to be illegal. If his knees are buckled by the action, it is a foul, even if the runner is not pulled completely to the ground. The defender grabbed Delanie’s jerseys nameplate level, went completely horizontal and pulled him towards the ground with all of his weight. Watch the replay and you can see the defender’s left arm extend and release as he loses grip and falls. Was this one egregious? Probably not, but based on the rules it was a horsecollar tackle. nine
The non-call of "down by contact" on the Jones INT was another head-scratcher. In many, many occasions we have seen receivers called "down by contact" in that exact same situation. Personally, I've always felt the rules for this situation were a bit of any oxymoron. In the past, a player had to "complete the catch" and maintain possession of the ball "throughout the process of going to the ground"....so when the player is touched while going to the ground or just as he hits the ground, he has not yet established full possession of the ball by rule. But in every single case I've ever seen, when the receiver was touched while going to the ground or on the ground, he was called down by contact....even if the touch occurred before the receiver "completed the catch" by demonstrating possession of the ball after hitting the ground. I know the rules of what is/isn't a catch changed this year....but the replay showed very clearly that the DB was touched as he was on the ground with control of the ball. In every single case I've ever seen of similar situations, the player was called down by contact. The fact that Jones was not called down and that the play wasn't even reviewed is completely inconsistent with every other ruling I've ever seen in that same exact situation. Very bad play and no call. The one on Chad Clifton, on the Packers? If so that was quite possibly the most horrific hit I've ever seen. And totally uncalled for & cowardly. I always liked Sapp but that was a total blindside that easily could've ended his career.
WG53
Can you all just stfu about the Henry TD? There was no phantom hold. The broadcast play clearly showed holding but it wasn't Delanie it was an OL that clearly had a fist full of Jersey. It was a legit holding call. Get over it. rns90
I'm still not sure how the idiot refs totally missed the blindside block that KO'd Lewan. Even the FOX ref expert, Blandino was mystified at how a penalty wasn't called.

Again the call was on Walker according to the refs; He had jersey but was inside the shoulders. Until the NFL or the Titans correct the call by saying it was on Kline, you don't have an argument. nine
Even if we cut them slack for the holding call...the fact remains that Boger's crew badly mismanaged the game, which has been a consistent and ongoing theme with his crew for years. Their handling of the interception play and the ensuing melee was utterly dumbfounding to me. First, they allowed the intercepting player to get up and run after being touched down....and when asked, they refused to take a second look at it. Then it took them 5+ minutes of discussion and a phone call to Park Avenue to figure out what just happened...after which they didn't even mention whatever infraction it was that drew a flag in the first place. Utterly dumbfounding and completely indefensible, IMO.
